What I didn't realize until I painted more than one rifle desert camo, is that the Krylon/Rustoleum camo line has 2 different shades of khaki. It took me awhile to notice, but something was off and it drove me nuts! Lol. |

That thing looks freakin sweet! What type of paint did you use? Good ol' Rustoleum! All of the camo colors, plus a lighter brown that was just the regular stuff. That is where it went wrong, but I am not sure if it was the paint went on thick, or I just got it on too thick, because it was REALLY to smooth, no texture what so ever. It was the 2nd to last coat, so by that point the deed was done, but it actually didn't turn out as bad as I feared after I put the fade for the coyote in. My biggest gripe is after pulling the tape off, you can REALLY see the different layers, especially on the khaki\first layer spots. I put a matte clear coat on it, but it still has a little shine to it. Couldn't find a true flat clear coat. |

I dont see a thing wrong. What stencils did you use... or make you own Made my own using the 3M 1.88 inch painters tape. Basically, take a sheet of wax paper, put the tape on it with some overlap on the side of the previous stripe. Then just used a Sharpy to free-hand the shapes based on the Multicam stuff I have. You can also do both sides of the wax paper to double up the amount of patterns that you have. The key to it is PATIENCE. I rushed in a couple of spots, there are a few bleed places, and a couple of places where paint came off because I didn't let the previous coat cure long enough. But now, the more I look at it, the more I think it turned great. I just wish I would have blended the light and dark greens and the light brown and coyote layers a little better. I found several tutorials on YouTube on how to do it. |

Honestly, it was actually fairly relaxing for me because I was doing something to actually get ready for hunting, and it was something that wasn't electronically motivated!!! Thanks man. It works pretty good here in the high desert. I can't decide to keep going back and forth between FDE and black grips and mags. Can't decide which one works better. Either way though I intentionally left the controls unpainted for longevity and the fact that the paint doesn't adhere to well with plastic.

All these guns look pretty good. I don't have the balls to do my whole rifle. Thinking about doing just the stock and hand guard first. For you guys that used Alumahyde, do you tape anything off? I hear its thicker so does it gum up safety/bolt release?
