I built this with the sole intention of painting it.  Mostly rattle can with a little sponge.

Anderson stripped upper
Anderson stripped lower
PSA Freedom lower kit
PSA upper parts
PSA hybrid BCG (from parts)
CDNN no-name barrel
YHM flash hider
Magpul sights, grip and ladder covers
Fortis Rev from the EE
MI Keymod covers

As built....

Colors are all Krylon Camo series: Sand, Flat Brown, Deep Forest Green, Army Green, Khaki

A few pieces of tape for some black spots....

Light coat of Sand.....

Some spotting in of Flat Brown.  Not shown.  Sorry.  Got anxious and forgot to take a pic.

Some tape covering the Sand and Flat Brown.....

Deep Forest Green....

Pull the tape off and add in some sponge of Army Green, smidge of Flat Brown and some Khaki.

I think just a little bit more of some sponged Flat Brown on some of the lighter spots, if not a sponged flat black or something.  But otherwise, I'm happy enough that I don't have to worry about stripping it all off, LOL.

Clear only slows down the wear anyway. Doesn't stop it.

No clear...let it wear. The more the better. You gotta use that stick to make her look good!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!  This thread (and da sponge one) is what got me to do it.  Looked easy, and it was.  Kinda want to build an AR pistol truck gun and paint the whole thing Khaki, LOL, you know, since I have a whoooooole can of paint left.

Here is some pics of the other side.  Didn't think to post them.  You can see how the sand is broken up more and that's the only thing that bugs me about the RH side.

After the sponged army green, but before the sponged Khaki......

After the sponged Khaki.....

I guess I should see if it shoots, eh?

My 2 and the wife's, she wanted something with more color. All have a subtle snakeskin effect.
Next one I do I'll try the foliage effect.

CMMG Lower
BCM ELW 14.5" upper w/13" KMR
Rustoleum flat camo tan
Rustoleum flat camo earth
Laundry bag from walmart
Much trial and error and touch up.

Ready for your critique. Is the Spartan helmet too much?

I'm pretty happy with this overall.  Not 100% what I wanted but I like it.

Painted my Tikka  .308 today. This is just the base, sponge camo. When it's done I hope to try and replicate ATACS camo as close as possible.

Base coat of khaki krylon with stripes of olive and woodland light green. Couldnt bring myself to paint the Leupold though, it'll stay black for now.

New Paint Job this weekend!

Paint used:
Rust-oleum Camo
Khaki
Earth Brown
Deep Forest Green
Army Green

Matte Clear

Step 1: remove Optics and light and cleaned those with alcohol. Sprayed everything else down with brake cleaner and let dry.

Step 2: Tape off everything you don't want painted, optic lenses, light, laser,, trigger, mag housing.

Step 3: I painted the rails where my optics and light was, let it dry and remounted.

Step 4: Applied 2 coats of Khaki to everything.

Step 4: I went for the sponge method

Sponge Earth Brown, Dark Forest Green, Army Green, then I sponged Khaki again to lighten areas up.

NOW LET DRY OVERNIGHT

Now I rubbed it down very lightly with 0000 steel wool. Sprayed with 2 coats of Matte finish(I tried the Valspar flat clear but it misted too fine and didn't like it) rubbing lightly with 0000 steel wool to smooth after each coat.

Wish I took pictures after each stage!

Lower is holding up nicely though.

rustoleum sand and aervoe highland laundry bag.

rustoleum earth brown, khaki, army green, deep forest green, and black laundry bag/sponge hybrid

aervoe post war od green, field drab, earth yellow, light coyote and krylon olive and khaki

sorry for the potato pics

I never have been able to figure out, what's the appeal of aervoe?  Seems to look just like krylon to me, why do people pay through the nose for it in comparison?

its tougher than krylon and comes in way more colors

dsg also sells it for under $7 a can while krylon is only sold around here at advanced auto for $7.50 can

ah, shipping's more expensive though due to the ORM-D.

if you're worried about toughness buy an airbrush and use cerakote?

started with an aervoe khaki base, sponged on black, field drab, and olive.

felt it was missing something so added more black and some earth brown.  hated it

sponged on more khaki, then dusted the whole thing with earth yellow.  now its one of my favorites

Yeah, that aervoe stuff is like gold.  It takes forever to cure, but once it does it is one there.  The field drab is awesome!

First try at rattle can. Used random twigs and stuff. Three colors of Rustoleum camo.
Only prep I did was to stuff some foam into the FH and a quick wipe with a rag.

Outline break-up: Level Achieved!

I looked and looked for the right pattern, and found this at a place called Spandex house

The product is called two way stretch net, and you can request samples. I just bought a yard of it for 8.00.
