Ummmm, its tough to explain... I used masking Tape ripped into indistinct shapes(a lot). you can start with a light base or dark base coat. Just make sure you alternate between light and dark. Lay down a the first coat, wait for it to dry, randomly disperse the masking tape spots evenly throughout the gun. (remember wherever you have tape, the color below will com through, sounds dumb, but its hard to remember) Overlap your masking tape on each coat. I let it cure for a few days and hit it with a matte clear coat. I practiced on a plastic cutting board that I use for a bench block. This is the finished product. |

I used Rustoleum camouflage from home depot. OD green for the base and then tan, brown, and black using grasses, sticks, and pine needles I found laying around near my house for the patterns. This was my first paint job. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'm thinking about painting couple more of my ARs now.

Try holding the can a little further to blend the colors a little more. Or if the distinct spots are what youre going for, I used oaktag or paper and make a hole in it, hold it off your rifle, and spray the paper holding the can away from the paper. If that makes sense. You'll get the difference in color without the blotches |

I'm thinking about putting the upper on a spare 80% lower and painting it on that to make it easy. I dont want seamless camo, going for more of a combat look. My lower looks effing knarly and i realllly don't wanna paint that again. Id tape off the scope and just paint the rings as well. Make it look like i pulled parts off prev MK12 MOD O guns to make this.
I'd stick with a tan base coat and then add in green brown and some blacks. |

Used a sponge? Yes sir, khaki base coat, light striped with deep forest and dark earth brown, then sponged with those same colors along with a little bit of army green for some lighter accents. |
