I went darker for mine (Spring/Summer in WI... Woods are pretty green, and lots of shade coverage)

But your style will be fine... It's really hard to go wrong with rattle can job with a few basic colors!

Well I took the plunge and rattle-canned my most expensive build, my 6.8 SPC with a 12.5" barrel. Not expensive for the parts I used, but because I had to buy two NFA stamps for this setup. It was supposed to be Multi-cam but I think this is more like Multi-fleck, a combination of Flecktarn and Multi-cam. It didn't turn out exactly like I wanted it to, but I'm not changing it at this point. I didn't paint the grip because it's the Magpul rubber grip, and I didn't want paint stuck to my hand every time I picked the rifle up.

ETA- The tree that my rifle is in had been blown down in a storm the day before. I thought it looked like a good place for a picture.

I think it still looks good.  Remember, the biggest purpose of the cammo job is to break up the outline of the gun.   Even if it doesn't match a certain pattern exactly, it is going to be better than a single solid color.

Did you paint your can or is that a wrap?

Since I live pretty much in the desert of So Cal I went with a suble earth tone...

The barrel is stainless so I bead blasted it and coated it with Norrels grey to knock down the shine and used rustoleum camo to finish it off. I did not mask off the scope markings but went ahead and used Goof-Off to clean the paint from those areas so I could see them.

Here is its big brother using the same paint but with a bit more green..

After looking at all these great pics for years, I decided to try my hand at a rattle can job.

Nothing fancy, no patterns, just playing around with the colors to get an idea how they come out and how to break them up a little. Start (brake cleaner) to finish (bring in out of the garage) was about an hour.

I dipped the stock, well I took it apart and dipped each part,  it came out ok and I just had a few places to touch up, I used the airbrush to do that.
The vertical grip is dipped and airbrushed the same with the pistol grip.
I dipped 1 mag and then painted 5 others,  The dipped parts just are too shinny for my liking.  The paint is flat.

Well, my wife is off with a friend at the Dallas Makerspace learning how to 3D print and run their CNC machine, so I figured I'd be the one taking up arts and crafts tonight after shooting.  Commandeered the guest bathroom tub and shower curtain liner and started this...

I should probably rattlecan myself next so I can disappear into the local foliage before she sees the shower curtain liner...

Keep them all on until you're done with painting, let it dry, then peel them off. I do a couple of misting passes along the upper half to blend the colors in. When you peel off the stencils there may be a small paint line around where the stencils were. I hit any of those spot with very find sand paper to smooth them out, then hit it with clear coat.

Just looking through all these photos and see youre running a sig brace. Hows the paint holding up on it? Im thinking about doing a rattle job on mine but didn't know how well the paint would stick to the brace.

once the paint wears a little bit, the character really shines through. This is after 1 year, 2 courses, 2 3-gun matches and about 3k through it. I've swapped the rail out on it since the original paint job so i did my best to match it up.

This was my first time painting a gun of any kind and I like how she turned out.  I combined the mesh bag and straw method and used the following Aervoe colors:  Sand, Forest Green, Olive Drab, and Field Drab.  Since the original ladder style rail covers were rubber, I opted for the Larue rail clips so that the paint would adhere better.  This rifle is now 100%, now to move on to the next one.

Thanks. Did it almost 2 years ago and I'd say it's holding up pretty well.

For the roll marks I used some Elmers paint pens that I had lying around. Took a little trial and error but I'm happy with it.

Thanks, It's just the Rustoleum camo paints from Walmart. Olive Drab and Brown.

I was really happy with how it came out, after going back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to do it in the first place, I'm glad I did.

Here's a pic with my Noveske build upper...not sure if I'm going to paint it or not.

Horrible photo but I hit one of my rifles with some Aervo "light coyote" Monday night.

I'll post a better photo when it's done curing. Sometime tomorrow or Friday if I can wait that long
