[ARCHIVED THREAD] - which dbal versions have the focusabel IR illuminator

before 2018 I'm getting a DBAL I don't care about color, don't care if the vis laser is red/green. I want to have the focusabel ir illuminator

what versions have that?

The civilian models are the D2, A3, and I2 9007

D2 Illum is IR LED based. It's a HUGE bitch (I have one and I really like it), but until the MWAL (and now possibly the A4), it was unrivaled are far as throw in the non-restricted arena.

A3 and I2 9007 Illum are IR Laser based.

It's still unrivaled imo. When you take into account the difference in cost. $2500 vs $1000. And we don't know how much the a4 will be.

It's up to the individual if the MAWL is worth $1500 extra. I'm my use and experience it's not. If the MAWL was $1500 I'd have one.

If the a4 hits the proposed $1600-1800 mark I'll probably get one once reviews roll in. But even then I'm not sure.

The d2 is just so much illuminator for the cheapest price at this point.

This is true but it's only 2 degrees of visibility and if you're not kicking doors or hunting people it's a non issue.

Even if you are it can be worked around. Plus if the bad guy sees my led it's lights out for him.

Damn. If the white light performs and there is nothing super odd with it looks like I'll be selling my d2 for it.

I mean getting better performance than the already beastly d2 and being able to dump my white light?! That's just awesome. Awesome. I'm going to start saving my pennies. Wonder how much I can get for my D2.....

Steiners are generally metal bodied, @TNVC has hands on and can firm it up though.
