Would it be possible to use a clip-on like this behind a front sight post? I have a ACOG TA11 on a mid-length with a front sight post....would this work?
|
|
What are the helmet/weapon mounting solutions for this? Norotos Dovetail? Norotos Bayonet? Bridge for use with a PVS-14? Is that dovetail mount the same standard that others have been using for a while? It looks a little different from the ones on the MUM-14 and the Armasight COREs.

I pre-ordered one this week from Armasight. They said two month +\- on delivery.

Not only that, it is tiny, super lightweight, extremely powerful, collimated, runs 4X longer on a CR123, and very affordable at <$2K. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Yes to all, but accessories to clip on to helmet and rail will be additional optional packages for the mounts, battery extender, optional germanium lenses, etc.
Kits are ready to go but new enhanced software is currently being loaded into the Boson cores, from what I hear should be out end of May. Authorized distributors will know much more and will probably post when they fulfill their current orders. Don't know if they will market specific packaged kits for specific uses or just the main core unit with a multitude of operational options for those specific end user applications? |

My FLIR rep said "we hope for the end of April" which I translated to be probably June
The 640 is evidently still a long way on the horizon. TAB173WN8Q14001 - Q14-B TIM 320 (30Hz) Thermal Imaging Multi-Purpose Monocular, FLIR Boson - 320x256 (12µm) 30Hz Core Retail $1995.00 Some answers to questions I asked re: magnification, use as a clip on and helmet mounting- It is 1X and it does have a reticle which can be turned off when you use the unit as a monocular. However, in order to use it as a clip-on you need a different unit - Thermosight C which comes with special optics.
For PVS-14 type mounts you will need an optional adapter #37. View Quote |

Theromosight C is the collimated Clip-On version TWS shown in previous photo above, Q14B is NOT collimated for Clip-on and is both a TWS and a hand/helmet scanner, these are two different model specifications.
|
|
the 640 is so far off that it isn't even being included in this years product catalog. :-(

You can use the C as standalone TWS too, everyone will find out soon enough, 320 cores should ship out end of next month, 640s will be all around the Christmas Tree.

How will we know what to pre-order? Where are the details/specs on these units? I didn't find anything about them on your website. Thanks. View Quote |

The Nancy Pelosi school of buying thermal? You have to buy it to know what your getting? This is becoming some kind of church for true believers.

Is there an additional lens that can be purchased for the Q14b to add magnification? Can that same lens be used on the Q14C?

For the price, I really doubt it! Comparable in this price range is the Scout 240, and the Q14B offers a lot more than the Scout 240. Thank you for your order. Quick question:
These units are labeled as 1x optical magnification. But they have a narrow field of view. Like 12° or less. Why is the optical magnification not higher since the field of view is so narrow like what you would get on a different thermal scope that is narrow field of view? 1x and narrow seems like a bad combination. Is it not? I'm not trying to sound critical just trying to learn the difference. |

I thought the price was dependent on the size of the lens and the features of the unit?
Isnt a typical thermal device that is labeled as 1x going to have a wider field of view? Why does this one not have a wider field of view? These Boson cores are cheaper than their predecessors yet have much more features and power. Thanks. |

Interesting so this guy might take a while to get his Boson cores for sale or maybe sooner since he doesn't need it mounted up for rifles?

FOV depends on which lens size you order, if you want 50+ degree FOV get a 9mm lens. View Quote Thanks. |

Im not necessarily looking for more field of view. I was trying to understand how the Q14 with the 19mm focal length is able to keep optical magnification at 1x while having such a narrow field of view? Thanks. View Quote |
|
I think I am forgetting this is the 320 unit and not the 640? In my mind I am comparing the focal length and magnification between my IR defense 640 35 mm scope versus the 320 Q14's.
I forgot I have to narrow the field of view in half when comparing the smaller core size. But I still don't understand how this is only 1x? Thanks. |
|
The software for this particular unit is programmed to be 1X.
For higher magnifications you will need the C-Seies Boson Scopes and Clip-Ons with different software drivers, NOT the Q14B instrument. |
|
OK, that explains that. Thanks.
I'm probably not going to understand the benefit of 1x with such a narrow field of view until I actually look through one myself? Which gets us back to the Nancy Pelosi comment. Haha thanks. |

You have to buy it to see what's in it. View Quote Apparently we get to see the spec's before commitment. The list is just to make sure you are at the front of the procurement cycle. It looks like you have the ability to back out of the deal if you don't like the spec's. If you like your old thermal, you can keep your old thermal. |

JRH already has two pages of specs on the Q14B on his webpage which has got me asking these questions in the first place.
I like the super tiny, powerful, blah blah blah, aspects of this device. It would be great to have for a spare or loaner for a buddy to use while hunting with me. Does using software to set the magnification at 1X on this particular unit allow for no loss or distortion of resolution when zooming in? Or conversely does it allow you to have significantly greater resolution at base magnification? Thanks. |
