You can still zoom in on the target.  That is just the optical magnification.

Would rather a thermal at 320 at 3-4x versus gen 3 at 3-4x

I would like to point out that the XP50 has a 640x480 17 micron sensor with a 50mm focal length producing a 12 degree FOV. Pulsar calls this a 1.6X because of the display magnification. The industry standard for these specs is 2X or 2.5X optical magnification no matter the "perceived" magnification. The XP50 is on par with the Zeus 640 2X 50mm, ThOR 640 2.5X, Mk2 35mm 2.5X, and REAP-IR 2.5X as far as detection range and FOV.

Its good that you address this. Seems commercial stuff always seems to be overly generous with specs. Glad Pulsar are listing this accurately.

Any way to include sound on the recordings, like a jack for an external mic?

Pulsar Rep says it is supposed to be on the production units. All these videos and images are from pre-production run samples.

Well that's definitely a relief. Thanks for the update!

Agreed, good to know. Their website shows "Integrated video / sound".

So far I'm loving everything about the Trail and Helion.

I meant to call you about this today. We will be releasing a one-piece DLOC mount to replace the PNVM. It is laser measured for a better fit, lighter, and less expensive than the PNVM with a DLOC-T. It will be worth the wait unless you need a PNVM ASAP.

What's difference between the xq50 vs the xd50a?

Could you see a difference? Detail/clarity? More optical zoom?  Further detection?

What caliber is the AR15? and barrel length? looks like an 11.5" 6.8? whatever the case, how does it stack up to the sig 308 next to it in terms of hog-killing effectiveness?

Just wanted to say that I appreciate the time that one of you guys spent on the phone with me last week when we were discussing the Trijicon and Pulsar options.   I was impressed that whoever I spoke with chased me down and called back after I hung up instead of leaving a message when no one answered.   When I made it clear that I still may be a couple of months away from making a purchase and didn't want to keep you on the line, you insisted on continuing the conversation and answering my questions.  Hopefully I'll be reaching back out soon, this time ready to make a move.

Just received a Helion XP38 and Trail XP50. So far I am totally blown away by the image quality. The videos really don't do them justice. With the Trail it's like looking at the world in broad daylight on a hi-res black and white screen. It's totally crystal clear. I also love the color palettes on the Helion, especially the red-hot which is akin to (although WAY better than) FLIR's Instahot. Will be perfect for finding deer. My only point of comparison is an Armasight Zeus Pro 50mm, which is a great scope.

I'll post some more impressions and thoughts in the coming days. So far I'm completely amazed. There are some not-so-perfect things but (so far) easily forgiven considering the price point.

Feel free to ask me any questions until then.

@unv and @unv_rich and @stooxie

Got my XP50 in and ordered one of your mounts (sorry, had to buy the actual unit via one of my business suppliers), and it appears I have an out of box failure.  The system boots up, but I get no thermal images. I own several FLIR products and PVS style NV's, so I'm not new to the game or handhelds.

Have tried everything including an exhaustive internet search, wondered if you guys have seen any problems like this?  I don't feel like monkeying around with warranty so I may just RMA back to the supplier and try a different unit.

Forgive me for asking the "is it plugged in" question, but do you have the lens cover open? I sometimes forget and wonder why I can't see anything either.

Only other thing I can think of would be to do the firmware update and see if that cures it. I assume you can see the menus?

If you could see how many times I have checked the lens cover you'd be laughing with me.  The first time I tried my PVS years ago I walked around for 30 mins and was only marginally impressed with them, then realized the lens cover was on.

I've tried a reboot, full charge, firmware etc., still no image.  Menus and reticle work but oddly do not save my changes after a power down, time/date/reticle type all reset to factory each time.  Think I just got a bad unit.

Sucks. I sent an email to Sellmark asking them to verify my Trail serial number (Cuz it seemed awfully low and I wanted to make sure I didn't end up with some kind of eval unit) and they got right back to me.

The fact that it's not remembering any settings is also a red flag. Mine has no issues with that.
