I want an IR spotlight; any reason this won't work?  I lucked into one for $24 and have it on hold.  It's 12V so power shouldn't be too hard.  It says range is ~50 ft. but that is for CCTV cameras, I figure it will be much more effective with Gen 3.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, but for $24, its probably worth playing around with.

Those are usually made up of a cluster of 5mm infrared LEDs. 5mm LEDs have a very limited range. The more you add the more flood you get. I bet it would be great for illuminating the road out in front of your vehicle.

What exactly are you planning on using it for? Anyway, it will probably go around 300 ft with Gen3... Maybe further too, but near field reflections will cause your ABC to kick in and reduce the overall scene brightness.

So it might be a little bit too much light, but you'll find out how it is when you're using it.

Also, it may not have any power regulation - in which case, it might vary in brightness depending on power source - worth keeping in mind if you have an alternator in the circuit or similar -

Looks cool though - :)

It's sure lots less expensive than the Rigid Industries IR lighting.  http://www.rigidindustries.com/products/infrared-light-series

I'm fixin' to get an E-series and a pair if D-series to mount on my truck. 60 mph wearing NVD appeals to me. Pricy though.

We mostly go out and see stars & view wildlife, no serious uses just messing around.

I solved this by buying LightForce lamps (incandescent) and getting IR filter covers for them. Usable off-road lamps during regular driving and night driving I just swap the filters in, drop NODs, and drive on my merry way.

You will not regret this purchase. They are incredible to say the least. I have the single row 10" model on my Jeep and I've gone over 50 in it completely blacked out. So friggin sweet!

I've done it! Not as interesting or successful on the interstate as on rural back roads. I also found that when it's overcast / lots of tree cover, just the amber parking lights will illuminate a long ass distance. In fact, It was challenging to decide whether I could see better plain eye / low beams or wizard eye / parking lights!

Also, brake and backup lights bloomed the imagers when I was attempting backing, so there's that caveat.
