I was always under the impression that the shadowing and depth would not be as "real" vs green tube, not sure why. That looks amazing. Any learning curve or any major differences?

What is the cost difference between a WP tube and an Omni VII?

You guys have to stop posting these pics of the white phosphor. My bank account is trembling.

What's it look like with a COTI PAS-29 and the white phosphor?
My pocketbook is quivering as well. |

Pleaseeee tell us more. Like how much more $$$$$ those pics are dammit I just bought 2 10160C yesterday

You guys make me jealous. I'm still running a beat up blemished unit with crap specs that I have to smack around every so often to get it to focus right. :(

So.... jealous....
I'm going to start needing to put you and a couple other folks on "ignore" just so I'm not constantly reminded of my inadequacy. ...just kidding, who am I kidding, I love the porn. ~Augee |

Aside from the L3 chrome tubes having higher than normal specs (on average), are there any advantages over the chrome tubes vs green filmless?
|
|
|
Pretty sure it's just a slight difference in image "warmth" where the slightly "colder" blue/white image is close to being temperature neutral and therefore subjectively easier on the eyes than the yellow/green color that is slightly "warmer" (mostly due to the yellow).

I've looked through a few WPT tubes at various trade shows but never really used them. OP, have you had enough time to form an opinion? This has been posted a lot around here. We have used countless amounts of WPT from Gen 2 to filmed, to the ITT Filmless and now the Chrome L3 stuff and Chosos nailed it why the Chrome filmed always look better based on specs coming out from L3. In our opinion there is no distinct advantage over green if specs are the same. Now the Mil guys seem to like it a lot in the Clip-on systems with huge 38+ S/N and 84LP tubes. They mostly say the WPT is easier on their eyes and some say a bit better contrast over green. Now I will say the Chrome beats down the ITT green filmless from a few years ago. L3 did crack the code vs. ITT in that regard. In fact, I saw no distinct advantage with the ITT filmless (maybe slightly above) over the current Omni 8 filmed L3 Mil Spec tubes. The question is really about is the price several hundred over green worth it? Filmless itself results in approx. 10% in performance increase ONLY IN EXTREMELY dark conditions and a bit better HALO numbers vs. filmed. Just our take from our tubes we've looked through. Vic |

it would appear there are no advantages http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a544/alabamachucksnake/sensitivity_zpssprgdsfs.jpg View Quote Could you please explain how you arrived at that conclusion? The information you posted seems to indicate to me that there would be a difference. If you are speaking about the portion mentioning minor differences in scoptopic vision, I don't believe this would apply to night vision given the massive amplification. There wasn't enough technical information in the OP to make a real determination, but I'm leaning towards there being a noticeable difference. Also, white/black would seem to offer more contrast range than the green/black, no? |

I can see people saying it feels easier on the eyes. I personally prefer the P20 over P43 - as I find it easier on my eyes FOR EXTENDED USE. However, with scientific studies backing that humans can distinguish more shades of green, wouldn't a user still reap a greater benefit from green tubes?
Are the L3 Chrome tubes truly black and white, or are they more of a Cyan color or something closer to gen 2 phosphors? In any event, I would also love some 38+ SNR and 84lp/mm tubes providing the rest of the specs are solid. My best tube is currently a 34 SNR 72lp/mm L3 green filmless, so those tubes certainly best mine. |

View Quote Bingo, why the Mil guys really like these WPT's in their clip-on systems when observing for hours at night. Btw, when mentioned the specs on the Mil systems we worked with...Yes these special Mil Spec Chrome tubes are available but cost thousands more than the ones in the mid 30's/72LP's which are several hundred above normal tube costs. |

View Quote These are my best spec tubes 72 LPI and 36 S/N and they are amazing. I feel like there is an amazing difference between these and the rest of the tubes I have. I need more time with them but I like the WP color over green. I think the clarity of these is what rally stands out to me but I think I would also prefer the color(which I see as Bluish) given same spec tubes. |

I don't know what it is but the L3 Chrome tubes are much easier on my eyes. I have been running a set of 15's for about 2 years with them and everyone that looks through them have been amazed. At a retail price of ~$16.5K, they seem like they are the holy grail because of the expense. If you have the money, they are the only way to go in my opinion. I have seen a set gpnvg-18 at an L3 demo before and wow...would rather spend that kind of money on a transferable beltfed though which most would consider crazy as well.

Nice dog. Looks suspiciously like a BMC. View Quote I got him from a Mastiff Rescue in AZ. I was ready for him to be huge but he's almost a year old now and only 70 lbs. so I'm not sure what he is. I lucked out and got a dog with a temperament that is as close to mine as possible. I love this guy "Apollo" he goes everywhere with me and is a great pup. We are continuing training so hopefully he goes far with it. I'll post more pics of him soon. |
