I'm running a Pro-Tec Bravo Half Shell bump helmet with a Ops-Core VAS Shroud & PVS 14, what's the best way to rig a lanyard other than just using some para cord & dummy cording it. Would rather have a clean look & not a bunch of cord hanging around to get caught up/tangled in crap.

tnvc go to lanyards. I know it seems short but they have tie down versions of the retractable cord lanyards there. That is what you want verbatim.

Honestly, after using a fancy Wilcox lanyard, I've gone back to primarily using 550 cord and a small "S-biner" clip.

Done right, I've not found dangling paracord to be any more of an issue than a retractable lanyard that's been yanked out and attached to a NOD - I've seen some messy, messy dummy-cording jobs, but doing a good job of measuring and using a small, but easily manipulated clip goes a long way towards managing the mess of hanging cord that gets caught up in things.

Wilcox lanyard has the cleanest look ....they also make a clone of it on fleabay ....or make your own  and get a clean look

But you said clean so Wilcox lanyard all the way unless your trying to pinch pennies

Here's my PT bravo half shell with ops core skeleton shroud just got it from TNVC

Like the clean looks of the Wilcox clip, but ouch it's expensive & more crap to bolt to your head

The 550 cord and small "S-biner" clip looks clean and not snaggle bait like this, did you gut the cord and just use the cover, it looks rather flat.

Do you mean when keeping the factory lanyard in place like this?

Link Posted: 7/5/2015 7:51:03 AM EDT
[#6]
Dont have a factory lanyard.......thus seems my choices are either a Wilcox lanyard or paracord.....

Tempting,very tempting......

Found Wilcox Type NVG Mount Lanyard Dark Earth For Airsoft Aor1 Devgru Fast Helmet  on Amazon for $24.99 total & ebay for $26.79, only thing is they ship from China....anf won't be here till July 29 to  Aug. 14 if not later.....such a wonderful thing buying from China is....

I've very leery about buying chinese,  reminds me of UTG and the wack a doodles putting that crap on real guns and says "it's just as good"

I had mine in a week from China and its a very solid lanyard actually better than some of other lanyards

Some chicom stuff is made of very durable ABS plastic and this is no exception also it has a strong pull it keeps my PVS 14 from wobbling

Also I just looked they have them for $17.89 don't knock it unless you try it

I've got firsthand expierence with both a there's very little difference other than cost

That and if you order the Wilcox one from TNVC and you break they'll probably help replace it

For me it's a piece of injection molded plastic with string and could not justify the cost on buying the Wilcox

I completely  agree, except I use shock cord.

the Wilcox lanyard is just for too fragile for me to trust. After the damn thing snapped just by removing it from it's cup, trusting it to support the weight of a detached NOD is out of the question.

Also dealing with Wilcox customer service is an arduous task to say the least.

I got one of these in medium and it works like a charm.  I drilled a hole through the j-arm so the lanyard wasn't inhibiting access to the on/off/illuminator switch.

Something like 80 lbs of breaking strength, made in USA, and it is under $20.

I took a look at the T-Reign. Nice piece of kit at a very rational price, and made in the USA to boot. Offered in different sizes, lengths and strengths and different attachment choices as well.

I will pick up a couple for tethers for NVG and also for fly fishing. A heck of a lot more reasonably priced than the fly shop "zingers."

Thanks,

JPK

Color me stupid, how did you attach it to the helm, zip tied it to the suspension & did you also velcro it down?

FWIW, T-Reign offers different mount types, from Caribiner to Velcro to swivel clip and pin ons. A search on Amazon  lead me to the other options.

I used a zip tie through two holes in the helmet - I did not use any velcro.  The lanyard came with a velcro loop, but I didn't trust it to hold if the PVS came off the rhino mount.  Hence, the zip tie.  It works really well - I don't even know it's on there.

I opted for the velcro version instead of the carabiner or hook, because I wanted something that would be quiet and not rattle around on the helmet.

I am guessing that the more forward hole in the helmet is obscured by the T-Reign, and is where the bungee hook is secured, right?

Pardon yet another stupid question, but I'm slowly learning.

What is the purpose of the 2 shock cords at the rear of the PT Bravo 1/2 helmet, I can't for the life of me figure out what they are there for.

Can be used for many things securing goggles , counterweight , ect

I use a war bungee and Velcro for securing most of my stuff here's a couple pics

You hang frags off of them as counterweights to your NVGs.

Really though, they are for retaining your goggles strap.

Well, I got the  Wilcox clone lanyard, it's not as cheap and flimsy as expected, but the clip on the end seems worthless.

Where/how do you clip it on the PVS 14, that part has me stumped.....ok, i'm stupid...found a couple holes by the on/off switch, get a split ring and use it there...duh...and now we know why I'm no rocket scientist....

Now I really like how DallasLooterShooter drilled the hole in the J arm for the T-Reign loop, that seems to be a kick azz method to secure it & chances are will end up going that way when the clone breaks.

I've been having problems with how the J arm clips into the Rhino Mount, seems like that's the weak spot and always comes loose, so far not impressed with the J arm, but hey, it's what came with the full kit from TNVC and I can't bitch never having used a PVS 14 before.

I'm old school, 2nd gen Starlight scopes, PVS 5's and then the killer PVS 7's we had, those were the shit....but I'm a loving the PVS14, this thing is stupid light and so much better than anyting I've used before.

What I did in the Marines, was take 550 cord, loop it though the lanyard hole on the housing for the OBJ cap and tie it down, and make a loop on the other end of the 550 cord and put my chin harness through it.

IMHO, not only is the bayonet mount interface crappy on the USGI J-Arm, but I've seen plenty come loose at the device interface (the thumbscrew) - nor am I terribly confident in the J-Arm's overall durability, particularly with a hole that close to the edge.

Whatever method you're using, I would tend to prefer to ensure that the lanyard is secured to the device itself, rather than any attached accessories such as the J-Arm.
