Will it fly?

It is up!

And away it goes on 1st daylight test mission!

ETA:

For those unfamiliar with this UAV, the on-board camera is made by GoPro and can do 1080P video as well as hi-res photos, saving them to an on-board SD card. In addition, the camera has built-in Wi-Fi and can send LIVE Video back to my iPad/iPhone. A recent upgrade to firmware/software allows it to fly pre-programmed waypoints, so it can be safely flow in complete darkness.

We went with a MUM instead. Shaved crucial ounces off the weight without any sacrifice in IQ.

It auto corrects using on-board accelerometers. You can see there is some pull forward on the camera mount, but the copter stays level. I need to tighten up the forward pull.

How do you mount the mum to a 46mm lens?

Yes, when flying by stick it must remain LOS, but in waypoint mode not needed. The firmware upgrade allows waypoints to be downloaded to the copter, and flown by GPS. First time I sent it off on a long course, it was out of sight and gone for 15 minutes. Even the video feed was lost. But the video on the SD card showed it flew true. Longest mission I have sent it on is 3 miles.

We don't use a bulky / heavy GP, but rather a dedicated 1080p camera built into a small "box" that affixes tightly to the ocular lens, so no light seep, etc, and it weighs next to nothing.

We needed to go that route because we have daylight, NV, and thermal cameras all feeding independent FPV signals, along with IR and visible frickin' layzur beems (and illuminator)!
