Scott,

Thanks for taking the time to call me. Unfortunately it was tough for me to talk long as I was working. The upgrade in the control stick sounds great but really the IR Patrol M300W is marketed as a weapon sight. Can a zero save feature be implemented? Even just an x,y location would be very helpful. Zeroing is very difficult without some ability to
track clicks.

As for support IR Defense has a very good turn around and we answer our calls quickly when compared to some other industry giants that can takes months to do anything. We are also launching a new support service in the next 90 days that I believe will make everyone a lot happier and will also make the process a lot easier.

Take care,

Scott

Thanks Scott, do you have any plans for a firmware update to improve weapon scope features of the M300W? I can say that the platform has tremendous potential, but not if you keep the firmware crippled. In hindsight I would have passed on the M300W.

i just sent my reap-ir back in for the second time to be fixed. I have owned it about 2 months. On a 308 bolt gun

The first time, the firmware was updated to include the thumb lock. When I received it back, it took zero thought to learn how to use it. It was a no brainer, and did not cause me any problems or aggrevation. I vote to leave it in there. It is simple to use, and the extra click needed seems natural.

I do think the joystick is too sensitive,, and that does kind of make you cuss a little when you always go past the setting you want, and have to back up every time,,,even with a very quick, light movement on the joy stick. I did not have it in my hands long enough to know if the "auto dimmer" setting was something I will miss,,which looks like the setting that was replaced by the thumb lock setting.

Slug entered on other side and went completely through the cervical vertebrae and ended up protruding out of his head, could not even pull it out either side by hand and had to use a pair of vice grips to get it out!

Have subs been effective over all?
I was thinking of using for 75yds and under hogs, and 150yds and under yotes.

You got the range right on, but maybe 125 yards max as trajectory is already running downhill quickly.

They work excellent as long as you have excellent shot placement, i.e. CNS/ head/ neck, otherwise just a pass through hole...

Out to 75 yards, shot placement is doable and works extremely well.

He sure knows how to handle that Knights Armament KAC-SR25E2 7.62X51mm with the KAC can and IRD Reaper on it!

My little KAC-15ER3 SBR is tiny next to it....

Three coyotes were chasing a turkey hen through a clear cut and I shot one of the dogs at 150 yards with the KAC-15 SBR, but no video.

Have been wacking hogs like mad lately though, we will get some more next week......

Plenty have already chimed in, but 300w should have never been marketed as is. IR defense did respond to my email, but only to confirm no viable solution to zero problem. I then ordered a hunter mIII. The patrol is a good monocular, but it needs reaper software to be a weapon sight. Paid extra for a weapon sight...

Well bummed. IR Patrol went down again and after a 20 minute conversation with Don, one of the main guys at IR Defense he told me there was no plans in the forseeable future to offer a software update to fix the multitude of issues with the Patrol. Trying to get the word out to the people who messaged me, please contact don@irdefense.com and ask specifically to have your "old" IR defense products supported. I tried to convince him they were dropping the ball but he couldn't articulate why a software update has not been released yet despite Scott, the president saying just a few pages back a software update would be forthcoming. The joystick actuating under recoil needs to be fixed and the x,y coordinates for zering need to be implemented. More importantly products need to be supported after being released at this price point. I practically begged to pay him to upgrade. I'd pay $50, $100, $200 for a software upgrade that isn't even being considered.

EDIT: I'm not completely satisfied but I will say IR Defense has the best customer service around. It's very few companies where the President calls you on Saturday night to talk about logistics of thermal weapons manufacturing. I'm retracting my previous statements as I'm satisfied with the current solution I've received.

Glad to hear Scott gave you a call back. This is the reason we work with this U.S. company. Thanks for posting.

220 SMK subs are 11.2 grains of AA 1680 powder, super accurate at close range and they have to be precisely targeted to produce a DRT as they do not expand at all, head shots only. Sounds like a .45 ACP baseball bat when they hit though!

IMHO, all controls should be on the left hand side to operate with left hand thumb and no need to use the right trigger hand. Lefties may think differently!
