I added the new thermapp plus app to my thermapp device. This video shows some of the new features and color palettes. If you already own a themapp, I would recommend buying this app. The cost is $5.99 iirc, Seems to be worth the money

There is no exciting finish to the video, these are tame deer in the front yard of a cabin

Black Friday: Free worldwide shipping on ThermApp

I have it on good authority that Therm-App will be offering free worldwide shipping on all their products in the webshop over Black Friday so if you're thinking about getting one, now is a very good time. There may be other deals buried in their website - go and have a look!

Use the code Black2015 at the checkout.

Just got mine in yesterday.

Unfortunately it is not compatible with my Samsung Galaxy S5 that has the Android 5.1.1 update through ATT.  The camera is not being recognized, by either the therm app basic software or the Plus software.  I have verified that my OTG is working on my phone.  Not sure what the deal is.  Therm-apps response has been, take your phone back to the store to see what the problem is.......

Per the web site S5 and droid devs above 4.1 should work.

Confirmed its not a hardware issue, works on my kids old S3.

Hi All,

This is my first post here so please excuse any shortcomings

I had a very similar problem with a Moto G 3rd generation (model XT1541 from 2015) device, Android version 5.1.1.
After some digging I have discovered that the voltage on the USB OTG port of my phone was dropping from 5V to 0V upon connecting of the ThermApp camera.

This is what I was able to establish, I'll try to be as specific as I can:
1) The current sourcing capability of my Mogo G is well in excess of 150mA (verified by connecting a 33 Ohms resistor to the USB OTG port which meant the phone was sourcing about 160mA without a problem)
2) The ThermApp camera draws about 80mA on average, but it has short spikes of a much greater current demand
3) These spikes trigger the port's short circuit protection that cut off the power

I am guessing that because the Moto G 3rd gen has became water resistant (2nd gen wasn't) they have dramatically increased the "aggressiveness" of their USB OTG port's short circuit protection to also protect its pins from electrolytic damage under water.
It is bad for the metal pins to be powered under water, of course, so the less current flows through them under water the better..

It seems I have a length limit on the post, so I need to split it here, the rest I will post in the next one...

... this is a continuation to my previous post that hit the length limit.

Now, I have no idea if your Galaxy has exactly the same issue but it is probably worth checking if the camera is powered properly.
For example, you could connect it via an old and no longer needed USB cable (must be OTG on the phone's side, but can be via an extension with OTG) where you would expose the black and red wires and measure voltage between them.
In any case I can confirm the Android 5.1.1 has nothing to do with it, at least in my case it is working great.

I was able to solve my problem by making a dedicated cable with current buffering capabilities. I attach some pictures below.
If anyone in a similar situation was interested in making of his own cable, I could also post the diagrams and list of components that I have used.

Best,
Kinga
