Just picked up an old PVS-7A/C.
Looks like MX-10130a, but im guessing it is a GEN II.  It has a concave rear element. No marking on it.

Thanks!

Is a old Litton 7 A/C tube. I need to see a pic of the other side of the tube before I make a judgement.

That is an MX-18281/PVS-7A tube. It's a Gen2Plus tube. From Ed Wilcox the specs are:
PCR White:  400
PCR red:  32
EBI:  2.5 max.
Gain 2x10-6:  20,000 to 35,000
Output Luminance:  @1.0 FC:  0.7 FL to 2.1 FL
SNR:  14
Res:  45lp/mm (up to 57)
Input Current:  45ma

You will note they are darn near OMNI-III specs. A great tube. I've got one. The one thing that hurts them is their IR response (the PCR Red in the above specs). If you find a PVS-7A/C housing it will do great things for you.

It also looks like it's got RTV in the pots, be wary. That isn't how it came from the factory or depot.

It sounds like it has a VERY faint whine (almost not even there) and I can't tell the difference in performance in any way from a known pinnacle.  ???

Is this an Omni II, MX 11769, autogated?
KM 272867-31-058

And the serial number means it was 2006 9th week, so February, correct?

If the tube is in decent shape, would you think $1350 for a PVS-14 was decent?

I just found an ITT tube     272867-9-049    SN 198411 DC 0652

They claim it is an Auto-gated MX-11769

Is this correct?

From the searching I have done I assume it was built built in the end of 2006.

Any help and data is greatly appreciated

Thank you very much.

I would be one of those astronomy guys. I was leaning PVS-14 so I could also mount it on my AR (amortize the device cost over two hobbies), but since my AR is a 6.5 Grendel I was worried about the increased recoil wear on a thin-film tube. So, I decided PVS-7 would be a better way to go, and just put a laser on the rifle and get a head mount for the PVS-7.

Getting back to the astronomy thing, doing my research it sounds like I would want a Omni IV or better, ANVIS tube if I can find it. The configurations would be ENVIS lens for 1x viewing, 3x afocal clip-on, plus used with a telescope. That's the catch, the scope has slower optics (focal ratio = f/9).

What specs do you think I should be emphasizing in a PVS-7 tube used with slower optics?

Commercial ITT mx11769 tube. It's the export model so the FOM is limited to 1600. But it meets OMNI V requirements.

I do not have a picture of the tube since I don't want to take apart the pvs14. I purchased it brand new a few months back from Optics Planet. It is their OPMOD Armasight PVS-14 gen 3 Alpha NAMOP0002139DA1. I did not come with a data sheet for whatever reason. I called Armasight on a number of occasions to try and get some info on the device, only to find out they had little idea. The info I have gathered is this..... It is a gen 3 autogated, manual gain, automatic brightness controlled, 11769. The only one set of numbers that I can see through the eyepiece lens are 1130422CC which makes no sense. Any ideas on what OMNI class it could be, or any specifics anyone might be able to discern from any of that?

The big box night vision stores such as ATN and to a lesser extent some others buy tubes by lots (in bulk). They could be fine tubes but they are not tested and have no data sheets. Because labor is less the tubes are sold at a cheaper price. They could be great tubes or not so great but all are Gen 3 tubes. You have one of these generic tubes. It is what it is and nobody but your eyes can tell how it performs. You could send it out to be tested but that is costly and you might as well paid extra and got a tube with a spec sheet.

I've been lurking here for years soaking up info and trying to keep my wallet closed after researching various products and getting sucked into the deals threads. This time my efforts failed and I bought a new PVS-14 tube off Ebay and wanted to see if you night vision gurus could provide any useful info on my impromptu purchase. It's already installed in a generic housing and I'm leery of opening it up to get photos of the tube and getting dust inside (along with having to get it nitrogen purged). There was no specs sheet provided with it for resolution, S/N ratio, etc, but from just testing around the office / warehouse at work in a blacked out room it's obviously a HUGE improvement over the Armasight Spark I had picked up as a "toy" to see if I'd actually use the more expensive night vision units.

Sold as an Omni VIII tube.
Cage code 13567 (ITT / EXELIS?)
PN A3297320
F9815YG, 18mm, gated (YG grade autogated? Tube appears clear to me with only a couple barely visible specs in zones 2/3)

Thanks in advance!

It is actually Omni Vll and a milspec gated tube. Better than Omni Vlll and pretty much the best you can buy. I would delete the photo as it is under warranty and kinda likely warm if you get my drift.

You covered the serial but the bar code is visible which can track the tube.

ITT made your tube. Milspec tubes come with no spec sheet because min milspec requirements are guranteed with the contract. Min secs are well known and easy to look up.  Your tube has a min S/N of 28, probably higher than that.

Thanks, Dino! It was from a fairly active / high rating seller on eBay who has a couple handfuls of night vision kits and completed units between an eBay storefront and a separate website. It looked legitimate, but I wanted to verify as much info as possible within the return period since I'm just getting into this.

How about this one. Out of an ATN NVM14. Looks like 45-55 lp/mm and it is fairly clean and looks to be a newer Gen 2+ MX-10160 format tube.

It's green phosphor, not WPT.

It does not match any American or Photonis designs I am aware of so I suspect it is Russian or some other Euro manufacturer. PM CJ7Hawk a link to this and maybe he knows. He is more familiar than I with the foreign tubes.
