Let me tell you an anecdotal story. In Afghanistan, my team had a number of PVS-14s on the deployed property book. Being concerned for the quality of our equipment, I had a 100% inspection done on all the 14s to include the opening of the battery compartment. The 14s had been stored in an air conditioned outbuilding, so no issues were expected. Wrong, wrong, and wrong! Almost every single set with an AA alkaline battery had ruptured, leaked goo into the battery compartment, and the 14 would not turn on. Every 14 that had a lithium battery turned on without issue - no leaking, swelling, rupturing, or other mess. All the faulty (there were quite a few) PVS-14s got brand new battery compartments, and since the NSN for single battery compartments was exhausted we got all new double battery compartments with the wonderful caps that clog with dust and fail only on days that end in Y. tl;dr Only use lithium batteries in PVS-14s based on my experience. |

Just watch out when buying them, my friend bought them in bulk, and they ended up being knockoffs. He called energizer and the largest package of AA lithium batteries they make is an 8 pack.

I used Energizer Lithiums in my PVS-7. As an added protection, I take them the batteries out when storing the device.

I pick up ten packs of these at a time, use them in the thermals first and when the battery meter goes down to half i take them out for the pvs-14. Not all the time because the take outs last for days. They are good. ETA; when the batteries are new they have 1.82 volts...I'm scared to start out with them in my 14's, they are high voltage !!! |
