THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I am on a budget sort of and need to get rid of a LOT of hogs. They are tearing my yard up pretty bad. I was wondering what NV scope would work well for 50-125 yard shots? I will,be hunting in moon light and covered sky's as well. Will a gen 2 with an external illuminator work? Or is it necessary to go gen 3? Also it would need to hold up to the recoil of a 458 socom Thanks for any and all help |

If you go gen3, You'll probably need something like a PVS-22 or similar that handles that kind of recoil. Let your shooting range and scope choice dictate what model you get.
458 SOCOM may only be 35K PSI, but has almost 3x the recoil shock of 5.56

Dude is asking $1250 for this one, but it is the 1.5X and not the 2.8x. From what I've seen and read, this is a hell of a deal. Right now, I run two $500 ATN scopes. The MK390 (4x) and the MK410 (5x). On a clear night, they're good out to 125 with good illuminators. If you're stand hunting, a rechargable Q-beam with an IR filter on the front really works well, but it's a bitch to carry around. |

I cannot agree more with CJ7 and Terry. The M845 is TRULY the best bang for the resolution dollar amount.

Of course the absolute cheapest way would be to find a bunch of folks who already have the gear you need and spares and invite them down to kill your pigs with you.

Looks like the m845 is the way to go. It's amazing how expensive nv is considering how long it has been available lol. UTC, sorry, these hogs are for practicing with the 458 and ranging my suppressed 300 blk. But if they become a problem, which has happened, consider yourself invited |

I've been trolling about on ebay, gun auction sites, and other classifieds, as well as looking at Starlight NV stuff. It's not cheap, and options are limited. I have seen a Gen 2 AN/PVS.4 on ebay recently, and there is also a Kite Scope with 12 bids. There's also a UK website that has two Kites for $4390 and $4626, respectively. My only other options (rather than waiting for surplus stuff to appear on ebay) are ATN and Cobra systems. ITAR can be a real pain. ![]() |
