Is a "mil-spec" lense worth the $200-$300 premium over a non Mil-spec 3x Magnifier?

What's the difference, and how can you tell by looking at them, as opposed to looking through them?

Here's some good information that helped me. I ended up with a litton. They can or could be found for much less than retail if you look and are patient....at least they could be found a few months ago. They are a nice accessory to have.

Cause and effect......Cause is over....Brace for effect....I prep.....what you do to brace yourself.....is at your discretion. But for those who don't prep.....I prep for you....in a different way......Me

Have the ITT DX kit which was sold for the 160's and so forth. They are light and perform almost as good as a 3X milspec. Has a fisheye lens and is basically a 3 lens kit. I use it often and it was a bonus on a scope I purchased so it cost me nothing.

Got a question on the slip-fit part of the lens. Is it supposed to fit tightly or simply slip on and off easily to allow for helmet-mounted units to take a peek at 3X? If I unscscrew the slip-fit, it will screw into the front lens (and the Opteka IR filter), so I'm good there. Just a dumb question about the slip-fit part.

The slip fit is for quick on and off and not meant to be a secure mount. I would always keep one hand on it while in use. I don't use it because it scratches up the plastic on the objective lens. Yeah, not a big deal to most but I don't use it.

Thanks Dino. The one I got off the EE isn't a secure mount- in fact, if I were to hold it perfectly still, the slip on part of the 3x lens wouldn't even touch the focus ring on the front of the PVS14.

Hmmm, should be a little tighter then that. Is your objective lens milspec or maybe worn down some from use ? They are never "tight" but are usually a snug fit if that makes any sense.
