NCS

it's from a company down under called Platatac , Platypus outdoors group.

it's a nice pouch with alot of room in it for weights or batteries.  it also has some cool features like a set of "wings" you can wrap around the pouch to help keep dirt and weather out or i use them to separate my lead weights from my batteries , they also help to hold the weights in place.  it also has some tabs you can bolt to your helmet for extra retention and a paracord loop to tie a strobe off to.  i'm really liking it so far.

here's a couple of pics of the inside

no one special , just a "regular guy"

i had ordered 2 of the magazine's since it was the inaugural issue , one to read and one to just put away.  i didn't even know there were 2 patches until i read the magazine.  the one i opened had an fde so i opened the other one and it had a multi cam patch , luck of the draw i guess.

So I wasn’t looking to buy a new helmet but I just happened to come across an ops-core fast ballistic in the right size and in good shape. As an ordinary civilian living in the only state in the country in which you can’t just order armor online, that’s the kind of thing you have to jump on, and m’lady actually agreed! So I did and I’m happier than a pig in shit.

When using the 4D tactical deluxe pad set from TNVC with an ops core ballistic do you have to remove the front foam epp pad or whatever it’s called?

The front foam pad you asked about. The 4D goes over it.

Does anyone here have any advice on mounting a PVS-14 (and eventually a bino system with bridged PVS-14's) to a bike helmet?  I will be mountain biking and hiking with this, so some head protection is needed.

Would it be possible to mount sometime without drilling holes in the helmet?

Or also does anyone have a recommended non-helmet mount system?

This would be a more ventilated helmet located here Helmet

You could rig up something with the USGI ratcheting helmet mount. Kinda janky but generally works

for that price, just get a ProTech or a Crye Nightcap.  you'll need a shroud, but you'll still be in a better platform.  IMHO of course.......
Link Posted: 3/7/2018 11:47:22 AM EDT
[#43]
I was originally thinking about the nightcap.  However I then realized that I would not be able to wear a bicycle helmet over it.  I was wondering about attaching a shroud to the helmet I listed as I already have one.

Unfortunately the tactical bump helmets all have a less stringent crash rating than bicycle helmets.  But I might very well go with a bump helmet and just try not to crash.

have you biked on mountains with NV before?  i have not.  i'm just curious how secure the NVG would be and if the depth perception would mess with you at all.  just curious/thinking out loud.

Do you happen to remember the helmet model/what type of mount you used?  As for example the one which I linked (and have) is basically 100% Styrofoam, so there's no where solid for the ratchet to anchor.

I haven't mountain biked with NV before, but I have used ANVIS-9's at work before and was able to get around quite nicely.  I also do race MTB at night, and with the older lighting systems your field is view is already quite narrow.  It shouldn't be worse with NVG's, and I felt that I had enough depth perception with binos at work.  I will eventually get a 2nd PVS-14 to make a bino set, but I wonder how a monocular setup would work.

I think it was a bell. Whatever was cheapest at Kmart at the time. At least 8 years ago, if not more. I used a standard GI ratchet mount, got it lined up to where I wanted it and pounded it in with a hammer to sandwich it between the styrofoam and outer shell. I then drilled a small hole to the front mount through the styrofoam and she'll to install the screw for the mount so that it was secure.
