Great to know. I've been eyeballing one. I'm M/L with my OpsCore so it sounds like Large will be the way to go. Thanks for the info.

New cover for my "work" helmet, custom FR MICH cover made by stoner63a:

500d FR Multicam fabric, Multicam printed Velcro on the sides, back, and top, Hypalon reinforced shroud mounting panel, 550 cord camouflage garnish loops/tie down points, and the pièce de résistance:

Hypalon back cable routing channels that go under the side Velcro patches for use with ANVIS mounts and LPBP (yes, I know the Norotos one-hole shroud currently installed will not support the ANVIS... but my ANVIS doesn't have tubes in it yet, either, so there's that... ).

And yes, I'm still using my Lowe's bungees!

Augee,
Love the route for the ANVIS cable that's pretty neat.
Still hate the Lowes bungee.

Maybe one of these days I'll splurge for one of amuroray's fancy "FDE" bungees; if I'm feeling squirrely.  Will that make you happier?

The South Carolina flag reflects the fact that I lived there for pretty much the last fifteen years, which also pretty much equates to the entirety of my adult life, having only recently moved away.  Needless to say, though, it's still somewhere that holds a special place in my heart.

You'll get that WV flag up there sooner or later.
In all honesty, it would probably make the lowes bungee feel a little more at home

Planning to - somehow, inexplicably, with everything that the "flying WV" is plastered all over - I wasn't able to find a Velcro version, much less an IR reflective one (I know the SC one isn't either).

I plan to address these matters.

Mount is sweet. Defintely the way to go if you run duals. There is another thread a few down about the mount in the sake of saving pic thread for pics.

If anyone was ever curious what it looks like when you're a glutton for punishment:

I think the universe has officially confirmed that I'm an Ops-Core man.

Would have preferred a Maritime, but beggars can't always be choosers when it comes to horse trading - came with both styles of First Spear cover as well.

Will probably try to find a trade, possibly plus cash for a Maritime, while using it in the meantime, understanding that I may be "hurting its value" by doing so, life's too short.  Either that, or I'll continue to save for a Maritime and then sell it once I'm able to get it.

Hahaha, aint gonna happen!

I did it to the Base Jump because no other option was available... I know some folks have cut their ballistic helmets, but if there's already one available, I'm not going to bother with a hack job.  I'll just use it as is until I figure out how to make a Maritime possible.

I ended up trading a SAW 10.3" upper (Block I).  I'd taken the SAW upper in on trade not really being sure what I was going to do with it, but figuring that it would make decent trade fodder for something else down the road.

Meanwhile, another guy PMed me asking after the Block II M4A1 upper I'd had listed, which I had already traded away for some tubes to finish my AVS-6s (which are en route to getting built as we speak), so I offered him the 10.3" upper, so the SAW upper ended up going in and out in record time, I had it in my possession for three hours before it was promised in another trade.

It's been a wheelin' and dealin' week.

Still no MR556 upper, though.

Someone buy my MK 12 MOD 0!!!

I'm happy with everything but the mount.

More specifically, the way the bayonet snaps into the RHNO II does not inspire confidence.

Also, when I pull down the NOD from the stowed position, I tend to knock the release, disconnecting the j-arm from the mount (good thing I have a lanyard).

So I'm in the market for a solid dovetail system... just haven't nailed it down yet.

The NOD is a TNVC PVS-14 L3
Helmet is Ops-Core FAST Bump
Counterweight and battery pouch are EOG
Princeton Tec Switch with Red LED
SureFire M1 Infrared Illuminator
Viking Tactics VTAC Light Mount
Camo-black helmet cover from eBay
Homemade QD lanyard.

You guys are so lucky to have the cool stuff. I read this thread all the time to see the cool rigs. I am posting in the lions den of NODS for help.

I saved for years to get a monocular. Just a MUM gen 2 SHP, not the good stuff like yall have. I then saved up and bought a ACH and a couple rhino mounts. The skull crusher was killing my big head. The ACH works but not comfortable. I can not afford the Team Wendy stuff, I wish I could. I need a XL size helmet for wearing my MUM. Not kicking doors. I may be doing SAR/lost child/mental status change wondering off type stuff as FD/Rescue.

I see all the cheap Ebay knocks offs and they look good but I know buy once cry one, but I cant buy once right now. I have seen where some guys have had good luck with cheap knock offs. Can somebody please point me to a comfortable/affordable rig for a guy with a pumpkin head.

Thanks for any links or advice.

One of the interesting things that I hadn't realized about the TYR cover is that the "garnish loops" on the sides, rather than being gutted paracord like the Ops-Core cover, are actually elastic, which is an interesting feature.

Which cover are you talking about?

I've used a couple of different covers, and I don't remember any of them being particularly visible compared to other camouflage fabrics or helmet covers.

Unfortunately, I don't have an Ops-Core for comparison at the moment, but just quick bathroom photographs:

No IR illum:

With IR illum:

L to R: UCP and FG loop Velcro, Multicam 500d FR and Multicam printed loop, First Spear Multicam non-mesh version with Multicam loop, TYR Multicam with coyote loop, the cover not attached to a helmet is the First Spear mesh cover.

Ended up making a great trade for a pair of ITT Pinnacle, OMNI VII MX-11769/UVs.

The pigtails were damaged, so I had Ryan convert them to MX-10160 format tubes, and install them in my AVS-6s:

The helmet cover and cable routing are all fairly provisional, still not the hugest fan of the First Spear covers, but they'll do for the moment.

Consider that this was supposed to be my "budget build," I never imagined that I'd get tubes this nice put in 'em, I figured I'd probably end up buying a mismatched pair of blemmed OMNI IVs or Vs, one at a time, I ended up under-budget and ahead of schedule, and much higher quality than I'd expected.

Coupled with the Ops-Core Ballistic XP that I also traded into, I'm pretty satisfied with my recent NV related acquisitions.

To those using the Howard Leights, FYI those things may look Tacti-coolio but please dont use them for any "serious" work, they WILL leave you hanging. The sound suppression alone, even when new, should be enough to steer most away. You can get entry level Peltor's for the same or LESS and they are light years more reliable. Hearing is one of those things you dont realize you are loosing until its literally too late and science can't fix it...

Anyone having issues sourcing genuine IR IFF type patches hit me up in a private message and ill gladly ship them to you (you pay the costs). Domestic only! (obviously)

Is it NIR compliant though? I have yet to find any type of "mesh" that doesnt glow white...Seems like a TERRIBLE idea right on top of your head if so! XD (well 4 legged critters dont shoot back but.....)

Generally anything polyester or spandex glows nearly like IFF under IR. I can see some of that in the pics but it isnt as obvious as I have seen before. I have thought about buying beat up surplus Multicam BDUs to cut up and use for helmet covers just for this reason. Then at least you know its NIR compliant and if you bring a UV flash light ,like I do, you can weed out the ones some dumb ass used optical brighteners on...

How clean are the tubes?

And next up is converting them to Sentinels.

While a true tube snob (remember, I was planning to put blemmed OMNI IVs in these... ) might have more to say about them, one tube looks pretty much flawless, while the other one has two spots about the same size or smaller than the smallest spot on this chart (internet picture):

...about a third of the way in from the Zone 2-3 boundary at about the 4:30 position.

I'm assuming yours are just as good, if not better.

Awesome ANVIS, sounds like you got some rad tubes for 'em too. I'm constantly going back & forth over deleting my pigtails as well. But the means either doing it myself or sending them out & I just hate the thought of letting these things out of my hands, lol. Thinking about a Sentinel housing at any point?

From what Ryan said, the one Omni IV I got from bro was super clean, so I traded the other tube in for a matched Omni IV and a price cut.

And fuck that, I'll get em at the gas station for a quarter of the price! Lucky Red, right? Cuz anything else is pansy shit.

Can anyone in here compare the TW Carbon(non ballistic) and the TW LTP?
Trying to decide on my first NV helmet.

If you just need a bump helmet to hold your NOD, get the LTP.  If I was gonna spend $600 on a helmet, I'd pick up a used OPS Core shell and restuff it.

The more apocalyptic the warning label, the better.

Picture is related:

PSA: Marlboro packs with the plastic still on are not NIR compliant.
