FFL/SOT here.
The past two form form 4's we've sent into the NFA Branch, two+ weeks apart, have been destroyed by the Atlanta post office. The NFA branch returned one of them to me and the entire paperwork was covered in what looked to be ink and coffee. Sent first class mail. Today I received a call from an agent saying they received another form 4 from us that was destroyed and described in similar condition. This form was mailed USPS Priority 5/2 and delivered 6/20. Both forms had an apology letter from the post office. First customer had to drive 200 miles to submit the form, another one had to take an airplane into town (Alaska). Anyone else have this happen to them? |

You may want to contact your local postmaster..... those postal inspectors need work too..... probably some left looney that has discovered he/she/it can disrupt.... good luck with it OP

I came here to advise to contact the Postal View Quote ETA If we get a sting going to see who it was, can we get expedited form approval? I volunteer my trust to go in undercover. |

My FFL notified me. It was about a month ago that the forms were returned. I don't have the forms. I sent him a link to this thread and he said that's what happened to them.

Intentional the only ink in the postal service should be RED for the machine cancellations. All other imprints are thermal receipts. Someone is messing with the paperwork. :-! Oh, federal crime!

Federal tax Documents should not be tampered with. By anyone, including government employees.
That's all I have to say. |

They didn't spill ink on them. They spilled a liquid, probably hot, and it caused the ink on the forms to run and pool. It probably was coffee.
Anyway, if they were all destroyed the same way, it points to M.O. and someone other than the perpetrator has probably witnessed it happening. Hopefully they were especially foolish and did it on camera. |

printed text on the page displays minimal issues with it's ink from the exposure to the hot liquid...I'm guessing the fingerprint card ink was the source of the super dark stains in the lower right of the page shown.

That's beyond shitty, I'm about to send a Form 1 and a Form 4. Does it help to send it Certified or Registered? Registered is the most secure way to mail, but it's sllloooww as f*#k. It's not like they're getting your stamp back to you in hurry. Most recent TAs I've seen on F1's was damn near 1year. Government inefficiency is amazing.

This thread had me nervous but I see my check was cashed Friday so I guess I got lucky.

If you sent it with a tracking number, did it show as being delivered? If not, what was the last reported zip code before the form went missing?
I have one that was supposed to arrive today, but it has shown this all day: July 12, 2017, 5:04 am Departed USPS Destination Facility ATLANTA, GA 30320 |

I mailed one Monday 7-10, according to tracking, it made there. I guess I won't know for sure until the check is deposited. That's pretty meaningless as well too. So I guess I'll see in about 11 months.

Probably just a one or two time thing. I had two hit my CC in the last 2 weeks.

I had a form 1 disappear in Atlanta for 10 days, priority certified. Finally delivered after multiple missing mails reports filed. 6/1-6/10.
I'm guessing mine is gonna end up being in similar condition |

I recommend using this envelope as the outer packaging. Use one of the stiff cardboard envelopes to put your paperwork in, and then enclose in this USPS Tyvek envelope. Seal the flap with packing tape.
They will have a hard time "spilling" something on it. https://store.usps.com/store/browse/productDetailSingleSku.jsp?productId=P_EP_14 |

I put the paperwork in one of those brown Kraft paper envelopes (sealed), and put that inside the USPS Priority envelope. My check cleared my bank last week so it looks like everything was received just fine.

Having contacted the post office several times about their lazy ass mail carriers, I seriously doubt anything will be done.

Mailed 2 Form 4's on 8-11 the checks both cleared my account today 8-15 so looks like they made it. I had each Form 4 in its own manilla envelope addressed to BATFE.

This is the post office we're talking about after all. |

Have no idea what happened, but when you send documents via priority mail they get tossed into hampers with other parcels, and if any of those other parcels happen to be a leaker (it happens a lot) then it's possible your documents will be impacted. The Tyvek envelopes mentioned above are pretty good defense to this.
