Right now I have 7 Forms in with the NFA branch. Currently it sits at

  • Form 1 paper qty: 1

  • Form 4 paper @ dealer X: 5

  • Form 4 paper @ dealer Y: 1'

*All items are going to my trust*

I called approximately the last week of July to First week of August to check on 2 items from Dealer X that went pending 01/14/2014. I was told I needed to speak with a specialist and they would not state why (I asked if it was in "problem" status and was just told to hold for a specialist). I was then transferred to his line, and no answer so I left a polite message. I tried again a few days later to the same result.

I decided to try and check another Form 4 from Dealer X that went pending on 05/15/2014. I was told the same thing and to hold for the specialist. Again left another polite message. On Aug 29th I decide to check on 2 recently submitted Form 4s from Dealer X (Received @ ATL August 1st 2014). They would not give me a pending date, and was now told to speak with Branch Chief; William J Boyle. Again I left him a polite message.

Being curious, I called again asking for information from my Form 4 from Dealer Y, and my personal Form 1 and they were both fine. I was given the standard time frame that NFA branch normally gives for turn around time. No error status or anything on those 2.

After talking with Dealer X, he has said many of his other customers with Form 4s from him are having the same issue and he is as well with items inbound to him on Form 3s. None of us can seem to get a call back or an answer from the NFA branch as to why they have seemed to place a hold on any items to and from Dealer X. The dealers SOT/FFL etc is still valid, passed his inspection with flying colors last time around and there would seem to be no real legal issue holding theses forms up.

Has anyone else had an issue similar to this? I would like to know why the NFA branch seems to be "holding" Form 3/4s from this dealer and if anyone knows how to get a call back so I can get this issue sorted.

FYI/OT: The dealer is a small local SOT to me and is not a forum vendor or anything.

If it has been more than a week and you are still not getting a response from this "specialist", ask for Ted Clutter the next time you call. He is a good dude, and a supervisor. He will assist you on figuring out what is going on.

Wanted to chime in on this.

After a while my SOT finally got a hold of the ATF person he needed to and they said they are "releasing" his transfers to continue on as normal. I received 1 Form 4 back October 10th. The one received back was submitted May 2014.  Fast forward to last Friday, 10/24 and I call to check on the 2 submitted in November 2013. I get the same fucking bullshit with their being a "problem" and I have to speak to Rob Howard. I never seem to be able to get a hold of Rob Howard. Now I am just really starting to get pissed off. I cannot get a return phone call from Howard, Ted Clutter on anyone at the NFA branch. The receptionists  refuse to tell me over the phone what the problem is as well.

I am thinking my only options at this point are to cancel the Form 4s and get my money back. Already wasted almost a year and I tend to think I will be stuck in this cycle for time to come

i was playing this chicken shit game with the atf last month with my uzi bolt.... it never went into problem status.... but there was some issue and i was transferred every time i called i literally left a message every day for 2 weeks no one ever called me back. my sot emailed his normal examiner and just attached pictures of it hopeing that would solve it he never got an actual phone call either.

sure as shit the stamp showed up 2 weeks later i never got a return call. and the examiner he emailed couldn't tell what the problem was but apparently her passing along the pictures solved it.....

i was pissed to say the least how can it be in problem status but they never mail the letter wtf is up with that.

i feel your pain but don't cancel them

I used to call once a month 2years ago and got an answer from front office. Now I called 4 times for my last purchase and only answered twice. Do they have extended lunch at 2:20pm?

There is no need to call even that much.  I would start calling if I was in OPs situation, but I've only called the nfa branch like three times across all my forms.  Just be patient and watch NFA tracker.  Every second they use listening to voicemail is a second they can't use to approve forms.

I'm not going to say how often somebody should call...but those people answering the phones don't spend a single second of their day approving forms.

The person they forward you to does.  That is what I was referring to.

I'll buy that, but I've never been forwarded to anybody.

I assumed (right or wrong) the previous poster was simply calling to check status, which is all I've ever felt the need to do. The people answering the phone even told me when and why an error letter was sent, before the dealer informed me. Knock on wood, but I've yet to have anything major go wrong other than two EForms incorrectly Disapproved, which I go reversed within 24 hours via email.
