There's a paper form 4 on NFATracker that was submitted in late June and was approved on 8/22.

That one was mine. It was a paper resubmission of a denied eform. It was expeditided because it was disapproved by mistake due to a confusing new Maryland law.

Ah. Rgr. Got my hopes up there for a bit.  Glad they got you through.

I am curious to see how long my current ones are going to take.  One was submitted on 5/8, cashed on 5/13 and pending 5/20. I fully expect it before the end of the year, but it could possibly be a lot sooner. It has been pending for 3 months now so we'll see.

My 2 paper forms, a F1 and a F4 came back at different times recently

F1 pending 12/30 and took 220 days to get approved

F4 pending 01/07 and took 191 days to get approved.

Seems its up and down with the days

I've been watching nfa tracker a lot...  Am i missing something or are new paper f4's by trust turning around in <180days?

EDIT: holy poo
Shortened the timeframe even more and 90 days for relatively current submissions?

Let's hope so. The are shooting for six months by the end of the year...

I have 3 form 4's waiting to be mailed when the F3 is approved, one form 4 in the mail.  Hoping to see the 90 day turn around shown in NFA Trackers advanced reports.

Just an observation based on those numbers, but does anyone else think that they are processing new submissions ahead of the backlog getting their turn around statistics to look better while pulling forms off the backlog at their rate of 6k/month or whatever since those people are already used to the nearly year long wait times?

It just seems like with these sub 30 day e-form F1's along with NFA tracker statistics on paper F4's it would seem like the statistics are telling me that this is what they are doing for sure.  I am definitely NOT complaining, but i could see where someone who has submitted forms 6-9 months ago might have a problem with this method.

if you do the same search, date July 1, theres 173 showing with ~30 day approval rate. What the shit? I'm tempted to call today and check mine.

I haven't seen anyone report one of those forms back on the forum that wasn't a corrected form. I have a few F4s in May and I'll be happy to see them before November.

NFA Tracker is good, but is so poorly used. People don't put the proper data in and it's just guesses at this point.

NFA Tracker needs a corrected form selection or they need to tell people to use the date from the original form as the submission date.

I am still hearing that NEW Form 1s have been approved quickly.  It may be possible that the new examiners were not given anything from the backlog just newly submitted forms.

Yes. Good point. It would definitely lower their average wait times on paper. Much like the super fast eForm clearances recently.

Appearances and whatnot.

As much as I want mine approved, it wouldn't be fair to those waiting in the same line.

Seems crazy that they would be doing that. If they were, and I was an SOT I would be pretty annoyed since I would be sitting on all this inventory that's already sold.

I'd bet a lot of these are disapprovals that were resubmitted. I think it's foolish that people log them on NFA tracker as new submissions, it really skews the data and is not accurate at all.

Punctuation/grammar clarification:

There is hope. My 4/30/14 pending got approved 8/22/14. Fastest stamp for me so far.

You do realize those time statistics are only based off approved forms, right? So if 1000 forms are submitted 90 days ago, and somehow 50 have been approved, yea the numbers will look good but those other 950 forms haven't been approved and may not be approved for another 6 months. That's the problem w/ looking at the leading edge of the NFAtracker scatter plot, it only shows approved forms, so of course it looks better when newer forms get approved until a few months later forms from a similar date get approved and it becomes obvious there wasn't a big change after all. You really have to look at date ranges that have high percentage of approved forms.

Yeah usually when I see a new approval for a more current time I ballpark the average is month behind it. IE if I see a mid-march paper F4 approved, I figure the heart is still around Feb.

I just got three approved paper form 1s back. All were mailed the same day in three separate envelopes and arrived back all together in one envelope. Mailed 4/12, check cashed 4/22, pending 4/30, approved 8/22. Wow.I may just have to buy that form 4 SBS I've been thinking about... I would probably have it by Christmas at this rate

I have a Form 4 (YHM .30 cal. SS Phantom) pending. Paper trust, gun shop mailed it 04/01/2014....have not called to check on it a single time sooooo ?

I personally dropped off a Form 1 (SBR) paper trust at the post office on 04/07/2014 and received my stamp for it today (08/29/2014), approval date marked 08/23/2014 by Marsha Wadsworth (I think). That is 4 months a 22 days from the time I mailed it until I got it back. I never called the first time to check status on it either, just let the system do it's thing.
