I once had a customer bounce an AOW (yes, five %$#@! dollars) check. I got a call from a specialist (not my examiner) demanding an explanation. While she understood that it wasn't me who bounced the check, I was still responsible because it was technically my tax return. I was threatened with all sorts of unholy garbage if it ever happened again. I paid up that very day with overnight mail (4x more expensive than the transfer tax) using a bank check on behalf of my client (getting the bank check was more expensive than the transfer tax too) and included a note that apologized on behalf of my client. Then I bitched out my client and charged them out the wazoo for doing that.

Not sure what the policies and procedures are today.

LOL. Now I learned something new at your expense. Very cool that your transfer is moving forward.

I still rather use personal check and recommend personal checks just so you can tell if the ATF has received the forms.
