Revolutionary War howitzer restoration
While at the Baltimore Antique Gun Show I picked up this scale Revolutionary War Howitzer. It was rusty, dirty and missing many parts. The dealer assured me there was a gem under all that dirt. I'm not sure what scale. The dimensions are 24"l x 17"W x 11"H with a 1 3/8" bore. To restore, I submerged the barrel and all metal parts in a ultrasonic cleaner filled with rust remover. After 20 minutes the parts were clean and rust was gone. The wood under the dust was walnut and oak. After cleaning, staining and finishing, the wood was ready to assemble. I decided to blue most of the metal parts. The missing parts had to be fabricated and finished. Before and after pics attached.imagurimagurimagurimagurimagurimagurimagur

Nice! I watched a guy firing a similar one but with a little longer barrel at a fur trader Rendezvous yesterday.

Ok... that's incredibly badass!!

How much does it weigh?

No idea how you're going to get cannonballs for it, but that's begging for a youtube video.

Check your bore diameter.
Possibly use soda or food cans filled with concrete for projectiles.
Real iron round balls will cost $$$$$$$$.

So get hollow iron balls and fill with something like black powder?

I have to stay away from this. I am enjoying the bp fire and smoke more than
the black rifle virus. I want to try a hand held cannon. Start off with a 62 cal and go up from there.

If that 1 3/8 inch diameter noted in the OP is correct, then I believe no common sports ball or commercial can is a reasonable fit.
A 1 pound cannon ball mould is pretty close for a golf ball-bored cannon (1.67"), but that's obviously way oversized. Perhaps there's a mould for an appropriate size in deep-sea fishing weights.
OTOH, there's always cannister or grape shot...

I don't have plans to fire this one. It's just for display.
I do have a smaller cannon I like to fire. Video attached.
