Hey guys so I'm completely new to BP firearms in general.

I am thinking about picking up an 1860 army, but have a few questions/thoughts that maybe you more experienced guys can help me with.

So I'm looking at the Pietta and the Uberti 1860's.  I don't mind the price on either one, so price point aside which is the better option for what I'm looking for.....?
I want to be as close to the original as possible(in terms of designs, look, finish).
I want the finish to be as nice as possible.
And I want the gun to work right out of the box how it should( id rather not have to fix things, or make things better because they weren't done right in manufacturing).
^while I do like working on my firearms, I'm so new to BP that I just want the gun to work while I learn about BP shooting.

I know which one I'm leaning towards, but sometimes I'm reading that the Piettas TODAY are even better than the Ubertis.
Is that a fact?

I would prefer the Uberti to the Pietta.

Note that if you want to put a shoulder stock on the 1860 Army, the Uberti and Pietta shoulder stocks are NOT interchangeable.

Thanks for the relies guys, pretty much what I thought.

Spaxspore- that is a gorgeous photo, the background(wood) works so well with the pistol and knife.

Is midwayusa a good place to buy these from?

Basically, wherever you can find the best price.

I've heard it said that some of the larger importers (such as Dixie, Cimmaron, or Taylors) have special arrangements with Uberti so that their guns have "enhancements" such as better finishes, etc. It's hard to verify such claims.

Thanks guys^^
I went with it from Dixie.

I just want to understand, is DGS the importer on the pistols they sell, so their name will be stamped on the pistol?
If you buy it from midway, who is the importer?

nothing wrong with pietta, but uberti is more conscious in regards to marking and placement and finer details.

If I did not already have a nice Pietta I would probably get a Uberti.

Well, I just shot my Uberti 1860 army today for the first time......I'm hooked!
I had one of my FA subguns out also, and by far the revolver got more use

I was using triple 7, so I also want to get some goex still.  No one locally sells it, so I have to get it online.

One issue is that none of my handgun cases fit this gun, so I have to get something long enough that is meant for pistols.
I really like the leather one the guy posted above, any info on it?  Length?

I also just watched the revenant last night, so now I need a flintlock

EtA:
How many shots can you get out of a pound of BP when loading 30 gr charges?

7000 grains per pound, so about 233 shots.

^Thanks for that info.
I forgot to update this post....
So I went with the Uberti 1860.
Shot about 50 rounds through it on the first outing.  FUN is hardly the word!
