They did. If it is polished blue, it is probably factory.

Thanks. No this one isn`t polished blue, it`s sort of a light brown patina. That`s what is making me think it`s a kit rifle.

I build a T/C Hawken flintlock from a kit in the early 90s. At that time, at least, even the kits had fully finished and blued barrel and blued parts. Only the wood and the brass furniture really required finishing. And it was quite a bit of work. I think I spent most of the summer filing and sanding the stock and brass. Turned out very nice, if I do say so myself.

Yes! .50 cal. Purchased 3 kits late 70's, built them up. Sent barrel/breech plug sout for blueing. All began S/N with "K".

My father also built a 50 cal kit back in the 70's. The barrel was unfinished and the serial number starts with a K.

Just about every rifle that TC made was avaliable in kit form. You will find them in both blue and brown depending on the kit and builder's skill. You will also find them in 36, 45, 50 and 54 cal.

The "K" serial is the give away in all cases.
