I was in a local pawn shop for business yesterday and on the rack with a bunch of cheap crap was a well patina'd Winchester 1907 in 351.  It was dirty but had all of the signs of being original and had a cracked stock.  It has all of the parts that make it an early model, but I didn't get close enough to check the serial numer for the exact production date.

They are asking $199, but I'm pretty sure that I can get it for $150.

What do you think?  Should I get it??

I looked at one last winter that was in the local store.  It was in pretty good shape, I think the tag read $325.  I ended up passing on it.  I don't mind a little adversity when it comes to ammo; I don't mind when brass is hard to find.  But when dies/bullets/moulds become hard, I draw the line.

Cool looking gun though.  I bet it's a hoot to shoot.

At that price, you really can't lose.

Hell, I'd buy it immediately at that price then spend the next decade sourcing reloading components

For me it would depend on the crack in the stock and how repairable it is.

Other than that, I'd be all over it.  (see user name )

Everything you need to reload for it is available, but it is expensive and not always easy to find.  My dies are from CH4D.  Cases are Jamieson, and around $2 each.

I also own, shoot and load for a 1910 (.401 WSL).  I can't post pictures from work, but I'll try to remember to post some tonight.

I wasn't familiar with that model, so I had to look it up.

At $150, I'd be all over it, so long as the stock isn't totally trashed. Heck, I'd probably go for $200, too......

I bought three1905s and 1907 in a single auction lot a while back.
Cracked wood seems to be common.
There is a pretty good book that covers them called the Forgotten Winchesters.
Jamison makes brass at .64c ea.
Hyman Lebman built som cool 1907s for Dillinger's gang.
William Morgan had some of these converted to burp guns for the Cuban Revolution too.
I'd post pics but PB is down.

Yep, when ya snooze ya lose. I've had that happen a few times. I tend to carry my discretionary funds with me when I make the rounds so I can jump on things like that.

The new Battlefield 1 game features a full auto 1907 with an extended mag as one of the possible weapons.  I know they were used by the French, originally for air to air, if I remember correctly.

I had to remind my 15 year old son that we had one, after he started playing it.

I couldn't help him out on the Luger rifle.

For the 1910, I've been resizing .41 caliber bullets down to the correct .406, using a push through die.  For the 1907, I've been able to find .351 bullets so far, but I think I'll eventually get a resizing die for it as well and resize .357 bullets.  Should be cheaper, and solve the potential scarcity.

The biggest issue I've had with either of them is brass.  While they are occasionally made, they are usually out of stock.  I purchased Jamison brass for the .351, and I see they are currently in stock again at Midway.  I did end up sending about half of them back, because they rims were out of spec and wouldn't fit in the shell holder.  To Midway's credit, they handled it well.  I should probably order some more, since they're in stock.

Load data is scarce as well, but with the internet, not that much of a challenge.  Just don't expect to find it in any recent reloading books.

I think I'd like to eventually add a 1903 and a 1905.
