Just got this in : Royal Canadian Regiment Enfield Snider Short Rifle Mk.1*
. The Snider was first issued to Canadian forces in 1867 when a shipment of 30,000 rifles arrived from Great Britain in August. The shipment consisted of 28,500 Mk. I long rifles and 1,500 Mk. I short rifles (this example being one of them)

Any comments welcome. Here are the pics.

Beautiful Snider! Always thought they were cool...

Had a Canadian Long Snider at one time...traded it for a PIAT, which I still have...

Always liked the in between length of these compared to the long rifles and short carbines. Saw a very few in the afghan bazaars, usually pretty beat. I ended up buying the best condition snider rifle I could find ( along with a handful of p53's martinis and lebels ) these old rifles are a hoot to shoot

Beautiful rifle.  One of the last military issue muzzle loaders, right?

its not a muzzle loader. Its a breach conversion. First Metallic Cartridge service rifle of the british empire. Converted p1853 / 1858 to breach loaders.

Not a muzzle loader, as I understand it it is the equivalent of the trapdoor Springfield

Very nice!
Wrong side of the globe, but every time I hear / read "Snider", I cannot help thinking "A Snider squibbed in the jungle..."
