What torque (in-lbs) should I set the front and rear guard screws to?

Just use a hand screw driver.. Tighten them pretty tight doesnt need to be anything crazy.

Uneven torque is where the problems stem from. Use a torque screwdriver and tighten them both to the same weight. It doesn't need to be amazingly high torque. My rule of thumb for large ring mausers is 15in/lbs. You can always go higher, but don't use more than 20in/lbs.
