Am I going to regret going with the round receiver instead of the hex receiver? I recall a shooting buddy saying his hex receiver was a better built rifle.

I wonder how these are compared to the Classic Firearms P-64s. Definitely like Aim's price (including shipping), but the classic firearms ones supposedly have the import marks on the underside in front of the trigger guard, vs. the side of the pistol for these it appears.

Hmm, decisions decisions.

Aim Surplus has more of their Yugoslavian M48/M48A Shooter Grade 8mm Mausers in stock. The price went up a bit from last time, to $230 + shipping. I ordered one a couple months ago and was pretty happy with it...but it did have a TON of cosmoline that needed to be cleaned off.

They also have a matching bolt hand pick option for $260:

if anyone shoots 7mm mauser, Military Shooters has FN manufactured surplus $30 for 100 rounds.

got mine. 36 head stamp. slight tarnish on the brass, but seems to be well preserved overall.

no range report as I bought it for the future day that I find a nice 1895 chilean mauser

wow this thread hasn't been bumped in while....

Not much of a description on those particular rifles.  Might ask over in AIM's industry forum on that specific batch.

Yugos in general?  GTG.  Interesting variant of the sks rifle.  Comes with grenade launcher/flash hider thingy unique to that rifle.  Fit and finish is usually pretty good on yugo rifles but I don't think the bores were chrome lined if that is important to you.  Yugo surplus ammo is pretty brass cases but generally considered corrosive.  I think DSA had some of those rifles recently a bit cheaper.

They were selling those unissued in grease for like $200 a few years back.  I still have one in the box.  I should have bought a pallet load.  On that note...some vendors still were selling those rifles by the crate (with crate) as recent as six months ago, but at around $350ish each.  Can't remember where I saw em.  Classic maybe?

ETA: IMHO they are probably the coolest version of the sks just on looks alone.  Not a lot of collector value right now due to them being the most plentiful variant on the market right now.  As with anything surplus, that could all change depending on supply/demand/political climate.

I would suggest comparing that price to the prices elsewhere (C&R dealers and Gun Broker) and see for yourself.  Prices have gone up significantly (I remember the days of the $75 SKS and $50.00 Mosin 91/30, which are long gone) and they will continue to do so as supplies dry up.  These are surplus weapons so they're already in finite numbers, and with Obama fucking the import market with his E.O.s, a lot of popular things have disappeared or become a LOT harder to find, driving the price up even further.

That said, I would suggest you buy what you can, when you can and build your collection.  You can always sell pieces later to buy other things for your collection.

Things I'd start with:

A good condition 91/30
A 39 and 44 Mosin
A T-53 (because cheap chicom junk can be fun)
A Tokarev (They seem to be drying up from what I've seen)
A P-64 (these are currently flooding the market, more or less, but will dry up eventually, get them now while they're still cheap).
A cheap SKS, or pay more for one that's numbers matching.

Or whatever tickles your fancy.  Some people collect Nazi weapons, I like Mausers, personally, but even so I don't buy a ton of milsurp stuff because I buy other weapons that I shoot more regularly.

I really HATE that I never bought a Mosin-Nagant revolver.  I always passed up  on them when they were $80 bucks or so, now they seem to have completely disappeared off the market, except for private sales :( and the ones I've seen for sale lately are ridiculously priced given where they were just two or three years ago.

Point is, prices are (most likely) going to continue going up and supply is going to continue going down.

E: when I say sell to buy other things, keep in mind, I do not mean to be THIS GUY

This is not a "deal" per se, about the going rate for Yugo SKSs from what I've seen, but Classic has some alleged Serbian Police trade ins for $429.

That said, there's no provenance, (just the distributors say so that they were police trade ins) so YMMV.

keep a close eye on AIM Surplus right now, they have been getting some old prison trade-ins. Ithaca 37's and a few Rem 11's so far. I believe they are hoping for more.

The batch they had a month or two ago was 96/11s, G11s, and K11s - no K31s. They were priced at 369 for the long rifles and 389 for the K11s. They also sold out really freaking fast. The G11 I received was in really good shape.
