Now everyone is going to say yes, but hear me out.

I already have a Hex, and a sniper version.  Thinking of getting a laminated stock version from AIM.

Is there really much difference between the full size and the cabine in terms of handling, balance, weight, accuracy, etc?

I wonder if instead of buying another rilfe I should just buy 880 rounds of ammo for the two I already have.

Carbine owners, do you enjoy them more than the full size verisions?

Interesting that a 20" barrel version of a rifle is considered the carbine verison.  Now, a 20" barrel AR is considered almost a Kentucky long rifle.

Yes.

3-4 ft fireballs for night shoots. Enough Said.

unequivocally yes.

m44 with bayonet?  spearing shit at the range?  stick it in the ground to "stay" while you're not using it?

evening muzzle blast shots?

find one under 200$ and win.

the laminates are very pretty....but the "whole" wood? stocks are more valuable to collectors as the laminates were late war "we ran outta good wood" compared to the earlier stocks....

uhhh... I have 12 carbines I think.....and I'll opt to bring them to the range before 91/30 , m-39....

jeez those finn m-39's are heavy.

and get both.  (880 crate and carbine)

I prefer the  M38 carbines, the M44 is muzzle heavy and not as well balanced as the M38. I would buy the ammo especially in this political climate. May all be gone tomorrow.

Blue book gives a 20% premium to the laminate....so collectors probably do value that more

I have 3 type 53s, 1 M44 and 2 91/30s. I really can't stand the 91/30s. I keep the bayonet on them and every time I pick them up I get a new hole in the ceiling. I love the little carbines.

My first firearm was a 1943 Tula 91/30. Loved milsurps ever since. After regrettably selling that one, I now own a '42 Tula 91/30. After never seeing a carbine in person before, I began looking and found a Polish m44 that I fell in love with. Every time I go to the range now I end up taking atleast one sometimes more carbines with me and haven't shot my '42 in over a year. Now I own two '44 izzy M44s one laminate, one hard wood. I need a Romanian, Hungarian, and t53 to be happy lol. And maybe a m38...and a 91/59

I had two M44's and an M38 and the novelty wore off fast. Decent shooters and the recoil was not appreciably worse than a 91/30 (which isn't bad). Go for it if you want it as they are not likely to be cheaper, but I, for one, vastly prefer the full-length rifles.

I've read people saying the carbine kicks more than the full size.

True?  If so, how?  it's the same round, same stock.  Does the shorter barrel not burn all the powder, so there's more of a rocket effect?

It has about 10-20% more recoil depending on ammo. But if you used to playing around with shotguns or FALs.. the recoil is nothing.

Same force, less weight = more recoil to your shoulder.

If you have to ask the question, you must be an idiot.  Buy several, and shoot them prone.

Yes, but I'd buy the ammo first if you can't afford both at the same time. Unless you're spying a good deal on the carbine, then get it first.

TL:DR

Get both.

I enjoy my M44 much more than my 91/30. I only have two mosins, but I opted to buy more cases of ammo instead of more guns. In my experience, the M44 is just plainly more fun to shoot.

I prefer the longer M91/30 and M91 models.  Same for Mausers.  I just like long barrel firearms.  The M44. M38 and M91/59 models not only make impressive fireballs, but are VERY LOUD too.  Wear ear protection accordingly,  I do not like the M44. Too front heavy with the bayonet.  My preferred carbine is the 91/59.  These were made mostly from cut down 91/30's.  They are generally more accurate and have better triggers.  They make great brush guns.

As a rule, the carbines tend to shoot better with heavier rounds.  The 91/30 and M91 with the 150 grain round.

Everyone needs an M44 and a 91/30. You will regret it tomorrow if you dont get it today.

+1, get them while they are still relatively cheap.

I recommend an M38 over the M44.  It's my own personal preference, but the POI will change depending on whether or not the bayonet is extended.  I found my M38 more accurate.

Good luck!

The cheap way to do this is to just snag a Type 53. They're cosmetically challenged but are good functional rifles.

If you find you like the Type 53, get an M44.

The carbines easier to carry, shoot and store and are way more fun than the 91/30's

M38 w/ 182gr yellow tip

M44 w/ 147gr silver tip

buy all the 54r you can find for under 20 cents a round. It ain't getting any cheaper IMO.

+1 on the type 53.  I have both and the Russian M44 in great condition stays in the safe, while the type 53 is the perfect bang around fun gun.
