THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Can someone help me out with what the part is that is installed just in front of the bolt handle?

I'm not very well versed is 1903's but I tried searching images and have not been able to find a similar one.

Looks like the mount for an aftermarket peep sight, with the sight portion removed.

That would be my guess as well. Looks like someone scoped an old match rifle.

The bolt looks to have been worked over also, I've been watching this rifle on gunbroker also an the price is starting to get up there for one that had that many holes drilled in the receiver.
