Some type of light ball, I forget the country of origin, but I remember they used to leave the headstamps off on some years. Nothing special.

Thats an odd one. Wrong color paper for the Bulgarian. I wonder how long the copper washed has been arround. Was the Chinese wrapped with twine like that? Im certainly not an old pro at this. The Russian I have looks a little like that. Im sure somebody knows exactly what that is though. |

Chinese 7.62x54r Lead Core Light Ball
http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinAmmo026.htm http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinAmmoID04.htm ETA- Actually, I'm not 100% here since all I've seen have some kind of headstamp. It could actually be Polish. Some are very small. Can you get a better picture of the case head? |

The way its wrapped is the same as the Chinese. Looks like 7 on top and the botton and 6 in between. 20 rds. The paper looks like it might be the same color. Maybe.... |

Looks like Hungarian light ball. Numbers on headstamp would be "21" and year of manufacture(xx).

Russian or other ComBloc country ammo from a spam can would be my guess. Likely anywhere from the 1950's-80's. It is safe to shoot but berdan primers and corrosive so clean it as soon as possible after shooting.

Well, I would've sworn that there was nothing on the casehead, but after reading the replies I took another look under a strong light; sure enough, there are very faint numbers at 12 and 6. The one at 12 *might* be a 21; can't read the other number but it looks like it starts with a 6. So I would guess that I have Hungarian based on that.
Thanks for the replies, all. Knew I'd find an answer here. |
