Are there any affordable 4.5" or 5" 10/22 barrels?

I'm building an SBR plinker so Kidd-type accuracy is not important

Am I stuck to chopping a factory take off or a $100 .920 barrel?

Beyer makes a 4.5" but it's probably out of the bargain basement price range.

Tactical Innovations makes a stainless 4.5" barrel for their Cohort for $99.99 but it's ugly as fuck. Their 5.5" barrel looks better but it won't keep bulk pack subsonic.

Cheapest guy I trust to chop and thread wants $85 to do a 10/22 barrel.

Maybe contact Kidd and ask for a custom 4.5"? Might be the best route.

I've tried asking them about a shorter barrel and the answer was no.

The Beyer barrel isn't bad, but if someone can come up with a ~$100 4-4.5" 10/22 barrel that looks decent, they'd own that market segment.

Ya, why can't butler creek or ER Shaw fill this void?

I'll likely snag a take-off and chop it. Maybe this project needs to simmer a while longer

Just talked with ER Shaw. They won't do a custom length. They only offer a Charger barrel in 10.5" and will thread it if desired, but no can do on a short length.

Screw custom
Why is not a regular SKU?

I went through the same thing and ended up sending mine to ADCO to be cut and threaded. Happy with the result but if there was an aftermarket solution I would have went that way.

My guess is that they don't want to deal with the hassle of customers calling and asking why they gun no longer cycles.

Most people don't understand how to get a short barreled 10/22 running with the reduced back-thrust.

Suppress everything!
Seriously though, is it that big of a problem?

This isn't much help to you but about two years ago Kidd had 6" bull barrels, stainless, threaded on closeout for $99. I bought three, had one recut to 4.5" and rethreaded. Subsonic with every kind of ammo I run through it.

Yeah this and there's some guy in the EE that chops and threads tons of barrels for a very reasonable price.

Ya, just bought an 18" barrel; it will go to Morgan at Class III Machining to get chopped

Anyone who who that is? Class3 Machining doesn't list prices.

Last time I asked him about a 10/22 cut and thread, he told me $75 + shipping.

It's really a non issue since it will have a dedicated suppressor so backpressure will be fine
