Last year I got my boys .223's for our annual prairie dog shoot. One was a Rem 700 LTR and the other was a 700 XCR compact tactical. I'd like some recommendations. I'm leaning towards a Marlin XT-22MTR because it holds a bunch in the tubular magazine and maybe a new Ruger America Target also in .22wmr. The wind is too strong for a .17. Figured I'd get them a different gun instead of the 2 of the same thing.
Edited to add: 1. they are both left handed so I think the tang safety would be great on the Ruger American target. 2. I guess I could scoop up the left over 77/22

.223 works great for the prairie dogs here as well as the jack rabbits the size of GSD. Other than that never have looked at a rifle in .22wmr.

.22 wmr is good when they are close, it doesn't seem to spook them as much! it is a definite requirement for us to use some rimfire. I usually start with a .22 suppressor.

Where are you finding 22WMR ammo? I think you better find ammo first.

Buy it cheap and stack it deep. I can probably come up with enough ammo for a prairie dog shoot. I am prepared as far as ammo goes. I agree, most people need to spend more on ammo and less on guns. Guns are worthless without ammo.

CZ is what you seek.  Ruger and Marlin are ugly stepsisters.

I believe the local Cabela's has one or two in their Gun Library.  They look very nice as in New or very lightly used.  But they're outrageously priced, imho, at something like $650 each.  But I'll bet if you find a nice 78/22 .22 Mag you'll pay quite a bit for them.  I'll bet the CZ's are cheaper and are certainly real nice guns.

Pretty happy with my 22mag RAR Predator - heavier  threaded barrel, no irons, green polymer stock.

I love my new CZ 455 Lux in .2WMR.. CZ makes some really nice .22WMR rifles.

If you get ruger americans that are as accurate as the one i got you would be happy.

Ruger is the stepchild on arf i know but IMO they have turned out some pretty good stuff lately.

I have a RAR Predator in 22WMR and it is very accurate. You could buy two of those for what one 77/22WMR costs and the RAR has a better trigger. I owned a stainless 77/22WMR and wish I hadn't sold it because it was a nicely built gun, but my RAR is still more accurate as near as I can remember. I sold the 77 for $275 about 20 years ago and bought the RAR last year for $263 so I guess it was a wash...
