I need a bolt action .22. Which should I get?

I have a few 10/22's and some extra mags already.

I will be using a spectre2 on whichever I get

I went the RAR in 22LR with a threaded barrel, for the same reason,(I already had magazines galore for it).
It shoots very well with the right ammo,(Wolf Match Target Extra).

Doesnt really like CCI Quiet too much, but it's stupid fun to shoot with subs.

Will you modify it?  If so, you should look at the CZ 455 options.

I've got a Savage FV-SR in a Boyd stock that's a good shooter.  Probably have around  $450 in it with the stock.

The American saves you from buying new mags..

They're all solid options.

CZ 455 VARMINT TACTICOOL BLACK .22 LR 16.5-INCH 5RD THREADED BARREL

CZ 455 VARMINT PRECISION TRAINER CAMO .22 LR 16.5-INCH 5RD SUPPRESSOR-READY

CZ 455 AMERICAN BOLT ACTION RIFLE.22LR 5RD THREADED BARREL

Having owned both, definitely get the Ruger. Far better stock and mags. Savage might have a SLIGHT edge in trigger and accuracy.

I've asked this question on a couple of forums and this is what I'm starting to hear a lot.

I have the Savage as well as the Ruger American #8334 which is Rugers competitor to the FVSR.

I recommend the Ruger, it has better mags, better fit and finish, better factory stock, and I feel better trigger after a few simple mods.  My Savage has a very slight edge in accuracy from the bench but I have had tons of extraction problems to where you have to make sure you carry a knife or tool when using it to pry spent shells out.

I have both best decision I ever made

Ruger American is .17HMR but still super quiet with my suppressor.

I see some people are leaning towards the Ruger but I have to say that my Savage is hands down my favorite firearm.  I've never had any extraction or jamming issues like anyone else here and it's accuracy is ridiculously impressive.

I had both.  I still have the Ruger.  It's the "predator" threaded, heavy barrel.  Shoots great, and, as mentioned, the fact that it takes BX-10, BX-15, and BX-25 magazines (and I have a lot of them already for my Charger and 10/22) makes it a no-brainer for me.

The accuracy is good, and, to be honest, without going up to the Anshutz/Cooper price range, I don't notice enough of a difference to make a difference.

I have owned both, the Ruger is much nicer in my opinion.

They have very similar triggers, but the flush fitting magazine in the RAR is great for shooting off a bag. I also like the adjustable cheek rest (you get 3 options I believe). I really disliked the non flush fitting magazine on the Savage, that's a deal breaker for me.

I got the green model and I absolutely love it. It'd by far the best 22 rifle I've owned, especially when you combine it with an AAC element 2!

Ruger 8334

Edit to add a link to a range report I did with mine. I also shot the 1 MOA challenge and posted .995 MOA with it.

The ability to use 10/22 mags is what swung me to the Ruger America .22 A/V

And I don't even have a 10/22

What is the thread length on the RAR 18" model?

.4" I think, but whatever it is my Spectre II works great with it. I've never shot the Savage but I really like my RAR Predator, tons of fun with subs. Cut the trigger spring and you can get it as light as you want.

I have both, I give the edge to the RAR because the magazines are better.

The Savage is a great shooter I just do not like the mags.

I bought a Ruger American today. Love it.  And it uses 10/22 mags.  My reasons for it being better for me than FVSR.

Better Stock
Iron sights
10/22 Mags
Safety positioning
And cause I got it with mags and decent scope and everything for about what an FVSR would have run me.

I bought a RAR and Nikon rimfire scope Saturday. I shot it Monday. It hates the CCI quiet. That stuff will be relegated to my daughters cricket.

The RAR LOVES Winchester subsonic. I'm happy with it. I just need to find some more Winchester subs
