Took my 10/22 along with a bucket of 22 golden bullets out to shoot.
I've read how horrible these bullets are so I just wanted to
shoot them up. Problem is the magazine kept jamming and not
allowing round into position to be chambered. Thought it was a bad
mag so I opened up a brand new one with same results. I know this
is crap ammo but what could cause mag to lock up?
I haven't tried my cci's in it yet, but it was running them flawlessly
last time I shot them.

Ammo problems.  CCI is good, Remington isn't

Rim lock. Make sure the rims don't overlap when you are loading the mag.

It's a rotary mag. Not sure if that's even possible.
It's not a failure to feed as in a jam, it's a total failure of rotation of the mag
to put next round in position to be chambered. I'm sure it's probably the
ammo, I just can't figure out why it's not rotating as it should.

10/22's are filthy little beasts. Eventually, the mags get gummed up.

Go on YouTube, search "10/22 magazine disassembly"

Disassembly, cleaning and maybe adding another turn or two on the spring will likely cure your problems.

Edit

I didn't fully read your post the first time, need coffee

Since you tried a new mag it's not dirty mags causing the problem.

I haven't shot any GB in a long time. Lots of duds, stove pipes and generally just inconsistent shit ammo but I don't remember the mags locking up....

Try adding another turn or two on the mag spring, might help you get rid of the crap ammo...

I've already disassembled and cleaned the old mag. The thought of winding the spring one more wrap did cross my mind as well.
If it runs my other ammo fine I'm going to save the GB for my son's and I's single 6's. Between the three of us we'll be done with that trash ammo in no time .

In any gun but especially a 22 always check function with different ammo as your first step in solving function issues. 22's ( the 10/22 rarely however) have a well deserved reputation for finicky

Never heard ANYTHING good about the Remmy GB's.

I've always had great success with CCI stuff.  The heavier bullets (36-40gr) seem the most reliable.  CCI Velocitors are the best in my opinion.

I got 2 mags that were not tight enough from the package.

Easy fix.  I do 8 turns and it's worked well
