I have a Marlin 60 from my teenage years and other than a 1894C, I haven't paid much attention to Marlin. I ordered a Papoose last week and picked it up on Tuesday.  I thought it might feel awkward without a fore stock, but was surprised how well it shouldered. I was skeptical about the reliability of a mag fed Marlin but was very pleased when I had no FTF or other malfunctions.  As far as accuracy goes, it did what I wanted, and that was abuse some redneck reaction targets (pine cones). I like the BHO and release feature. The front sight hood is a little flimsy and could benefit with a little better front sight. It would be nice if it could have been designed without the need of a spanner wrench, that is a lost item looking for a place to happen. After shooting and tinkering with it, I am very pleased with my purchase, so much so I have decided to add a non take-down stainless version to the fold. I price shopped a bit and saw the blued version on GB for as low as $129. My LGS could do $149 but I decided to go for the stainless version. If you have a new shooter or need a gift for yourself or another, a Marlin 795 might be worth looking into.

Yup, very nice little rifle. Not as neat to work on as the Ruger, but a fine shooter and at a lower price. You can dramatically improve the sighting with an inexpensive set of Tech-Sights. I see dozens of Marlins every year on Appleseed lines and they always function well. I may do my next book on the 795 now that my 10/22 book is finished.

795 is a great rifle but one of my favorite Marlin .22 features is the tube mag on the model 60.

Yup, the 795 is a nice little rifle.  Agree with everything else in your post; sights are a bit rudimentary but functional.

Yes it was. Other than a cleaning (dust mostly) I did not have to do anything to it.

I also picked-up a vintage 99C (pre-M60) at the same shop for $100.00 a couple weeks later. That one needed some TLC as it was formerly a Brit gun club gun. I had to repaint the receiver and refinish the stock. Internally it was just fine as was the metal.

The scope is a bit of a odd-ball. It's a K-Mart All-Pro (Japanese made Tasco) in 3 X 32. Never heard tell of a 3 X 32 before. I gave $8.00 for it at the flea market. Nice and clear.

Marlins are great rifles. I have 4 or 5 of them now. Here's my 795ss I had a bunch of stuff done too.

I picked up the 795ss yesterday. While I generally like it, the stock seemed to flex too much. I went ahead and ordered a Boyds standard stock in pepper. Between that and Tech sights, my $200 rifle is not so cheap anymore.

I didn't like the Boyds stock, so I did a simple camo job on the stock, stock. I installed the Tech sights and cut&contoured the rear factory sight. Still haven't shot it.
