Hello all:

I put 200 rounds through the Ruger American Rifle .22LR today and approximately 1 out of 20 rounds would fail to eject.  Extracting the cartridge from the chamber is not a problem; it extracted positively every time I retracted the bolt. The problem is that it would stay stuck to the bolt face and would not eject clear of the rifle.  I would have to manually grab the cartridge from the bolt face before chambering another round.  I was using Federal AutoMatch.

Anyone run into this problem?

Is your ejector bent, broken, missing?  Also check for burrs under the extractor hooks.  To be honest, with it happening so randomly, I would attribute it to the ammo.  Can you try some different ammo?

Also do not baby your bolt give the bolt handle a hearty tug when you open. Bolt and levers are designed to be worked hard and I have seen many people try to baby manual actions causing malfunctions run them hard and the problem may go away
