Local shop has a 1971/1972 (can't remember) 10/22, all looks to be original with an inexpensive low power scope on it. Would the older version be worth it over a new one if the cost is about the same? I could get it for a bit more the $200 OTD. I was thinking of getting a threaded take down version, but that is around $350 from what I can see. Regular wood stocked new ones run about 200 though.

If I had two used 10/22s in identical condition next to each other I might pay a nominal amount more for the older, metal version

You might be able to get more if you sold it to a ban state like here in CT.

With a preban we can thread it and add side folder, etc w/o worrying about assault weapon status.

$200.00 is a fair price. Look up on eBay what the metal trigger groups are bringing and you will have your answer.

I believe an early 70s model would have a walnut stock. That would be worth an extra 40 or so to me.

Yes to me an older one would be worth more. Anything before the plastic era.

the older ones are worth more to people in the know...  but most people are ignorant, the would rather have a new one for $50 more than a virtually unused old one made out of quality materials...

The receiver's bluing won't peel off when you use Hoppe's #9 on it the way the painted on finish on the newer ones will.

Plastic flexes, cast pot metal cracks. Ruger plastic trigger housings are manufactured to tighter tolerance than the cast ones. Kidd recommends installing his trigger kit in plastic housings over the cast ones.

My older one didn't fetch any better price than a new one.  Not one response from a ban state.  So buy what you want.

None of them are blued.  They all have aluminum receivers, on which the bluing process does not work.

Looking at my older 10/22 (1985 vintage), I'd guess it's annodized.
