How is it?

For a standard carbine, if you find something it at least sorta likes, it'll print about 1.5-2MOA at 100 yards.

I have one of the 10/22Ts.  Scoped.  I have no clue long range (which I consider 100 yards to be for a .22).  I set up a target with a deck of cards printed on it at 25 yards and practice shooting out specific parts of specific cards.  Like the eye of the one eyed jack, etc.

So this can be expected out of the box?

what can be attained (changes made over the 5 year period I shot the Chevy Truck STC) ....  Clark .930" barrel...reduced headspace on bolt... limit firing pin vertical movement... re cut hammer geometry and spring hole depth of trigger for 16oz trigger... full length bed...double lug... cantilever mount off barrel and not receiver... pretty good 6x24 AO scope with 1/8" dot and 1/8" clicks... and add a tuner to change barrel node vibration for the ammo you are using...and off a rest at 100y in early morning without any wind will hold 10 shots in a USPSA paster (15/16")

The biggest variation in just normal shooting (plinking and hunting) is ammo in just a stock gun.

HP is the worst.  I usually have a hard enough time just getting it to feed.  The bullets can be completely punched off center.

Plated round nose seem to be the most consistent but a lot of lead RN is pretty good.

I don't shoot much match grade ammo to be able to comment.  I think it's obvious that a match grade gun will require greater attention to bullet selection also.

I've found that the cheap CCI Blazer 40gr. round nose is very accurate in my 10/22's. It's less than half the price of Eley and much easier to find local. My second choice is Federal Champion 40 gr. 510 round nose.

Wow!  It doesn't happen often, but I'm impressed.  Well done.

Out of the box.  1.5" groups at 50yds with bulk ammo.  Some models will do better.  Do yourself a favor and buy a Power Custom hammer and sear for around $55.  That will get you a really good trigger pull for the best price.
Most of the triggers on the new 10/22's are terrible.

just add 1000.00$ and you'll be in the quarter inch club at 25yds

Good ammo 10 rd group 2 inches at 100. Rimfire has fliers. Main group will be 1inch.

Standard 10/22 w 10 min trigger job, choate stock, and 4x scope. Benched.

All 3 of my 10/22 are 1990 -2000 mfg.

Two are in choate folders, and my son gets a feather weight foler with a 16inch barrel that's been reprofiled. It's good to 50 for squirrels. Have not had him shoot for groups.

You can cover all my groups with a quarter at 50 yards with my Kidd 1022 in the Titan 1022 stock and match ammo.

Out of the box, this is correct. 1-2moa is not at all likely or consistent from gun to gun.

I'd love to see the MOA all day targets completed with two out of the box 10/22s.

Anschutz makes about a MOA gun at that distance.

A Savage would be a good starter rifle.

Well bulk ammo is horrible anyway.  A nice factory bull barreled 10/22 will print five eighth inch groups or so at 50 yards with SK Standard+, Wolf MT, SK Magazine, Norma TAC, Eley Club, Geco and RWS Target Rifle all day long.

Here is a great write up starting with two standard model 10/22's and seeing what they would do with basic mods...

Enjoy,

I lucked up and found a used 10/22 at a gun shop for around $275.  It had a hogue stock, butler creek bull barrel, and trigger work. I replaced the cheap scope on it with a nikon rim fire scope. I'm in it for well under $500.

I don't understand why people spend so much building 10/22's. You can run a couple grand if you go all out

I shot a 8 shot group I could cover with a quarter at 50yrds. Using federal auto match ammo.

Half-minute of eyeball then. 0.955 inches at 50 yards. ~2 inches at 100 yards (if the nut behind the scope is tight).
Good enough for me.

Trust me I'm not a very good shot. That's the second time I've shot that 10/22 or any rifle in a year. I just recently found a nice membership range, so now I can finally shoot more often. I also need a good rest.

Can you expect much better than this out of a fully custom 10/22? It's plenty good for me I just shoot for fun.

Someone here wrote that sandbags made from the legs of old blue jeans work well.
I also have the pics of a neat shooting bench my brother made for me. He bought a Shopsmith, and there wasn't a safe piece of lumber in all of New Mehico after that!
