THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT For hunting small game, target and plinking. I have Nikon Prostaff scope for it so that's covered. The myriad number of options overwhelm me. I'm new to 10/22 but shoot religiously and would like to work on rifle accuracy and get into small game hunting. Thanks! |

Buy a $200 Walmart special with a wood stock that you like
Send the bolt to Que for a rework ($50) Order a Volquartzen hammer, edge extractor, and recoil buffer ($40, $11, $10) Wrap sandpaper around a broomstick and sand down the barrel channel in the stock to fit a .920 bull barrel Order a Green Mountain or ER Shaw bull barrel in the length and finish you like ($100-$200) |

If you search around (like the EE here) you can find deals on things, especially if you dont mind used.
I swapped out the regular stock with a deluxe takeoff from the EE here, a new GM 20" fluted barrel (not the heavy .920 but still a little thicker then the stock 1 was as I had to sand the channel a little for it to free float) , did my own trigger honing/polishing job after researching about it, did the Bolt release mod myself, headspaced and polished the bolt myself after researching it, installed the volquartsen extractor. If you're comfortable with tools and do your research thoroughly you could easily do it all for under $400. ETA: If you're going to be using it for hunting you may not want to get the bull barrel as it's going to be heavy to carry. The fluted 1 from GM is a little thicker than a stock 1 but not much and the overall weaight of the rifle is something I could carry all day hunting easily, the stock barrels aren't bad either and they give you iron sights as well. |

Yep that's another option keeping the stock barrel. Send it along with your bolt to Que (or any of the other people that work on them) and they can make the stock barrel better.

I had the deluxe model with walnut stock, opened up the barrel channel. Installed a GM .920 barrel, marine tex to bed the action and forward a bit. No problem shooting around 1/2" at 50 with good ammo. Mine actually had a good trigger from the factory so all I ever added with the Volq bho and extended mag release.
