THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I built this a few years ago, thought I'd share it with you all. Like I said its a 77/22, it has a Shilen 20" barrel, Jard 1.5lb trigger and a Leupold FXII 6 power scope. The stock was a blank from Richard's cut in their Old Classic #2 style, its a persentation grade calro walnut. The fore end tip is real african ebony. Pistol grip cap is a Dakota skelton grip cap, butt plate is a Neider checkered steel, sling swivels are Dakota inlaid swivels. Start to finish was a few months, hand rubbed Danish oil finish and 20lpi checkering took up most of that time. I have complete picturers of the entire build if anyone wants to see them.

Wow, I love a classic sporter.

I'd have a really hard time putting that much into .22lr, but I would do it to a Hornet no problem.
Yes, our parts are tight, we did that on purpose.

Don't sweat it. It's a service rifle, not a Fabergé egg. "Hognose'

Thanks guys, most of the time building this one came from all the hours I spent checkering and rubbing out the finish. Richards did a good job inletting, fitting and glass bedding and putting the ebony tip on went pretty quick. One thing though, the curved Neider butt plate was a bitch! This barrel loves Wolf Match, it averages between 1/4" and 3/8" at 50yrds on 5 shot groups, thats off a rest on my good days! LOL

I love nice woodwork but I'd be afraid of dinging the finish! Awesome job nevertheless.

Off a rest with good ammo (it prefers Wolf Match and pretty much anything from Eley) it will run a good 3/8" average at 50yrds, if I do my part!

Beautiful stock! Everything I buy is synthetic, but I can't help but appreciate a stock job like that, well done.

In all sincerness I can say that is some of the best stock work I have ever seen. That is such a classy rifle. I have been searching hard for a 77/22 and unfortunately you have set a very high bar.

I learned from an old gunsmith, he got his formal training from P.O. Ackley at the Colorado Trades Instute back in the 60's, he was a gunsmith for the Army's rifle and pistol team for a few years. I grew up next door to him and basicly lived in his shop during my teenage years and was a premanate figure in the shop until he retired. He ran that shop out of his basement for just over 30 years. He taught me pretty much everything he knew including checkering and finishing. I built my first custom rifle under his supervision in 1979, it was a 98 Mauser, I wish I still had the rifle!
