I have had no problems with CCI standard velocity.

Avoid Remington Thunderbolt. My 10/22 hates it, its dirty, and lots of duds.
Lately I bought a big box of Federals and so far no issues. |

That's the only place that does around here. Try the Winchester 333. It shot the best out of what I had in my new tactical solutions barrel. |

CCI Minimag, in both hollow point and solid, works well for me. My gun also cycles the standard speed stuff pretty well. If yours doesn't, you might want to consider a couple of mods, starting with the bolt radius on the lower rear edge of the bolt.

You need to experiment and see what your rifle likes. It varies from one to the next.
That said my go to ammo is CCI Blazer. Costs a bit more than bulk pack but works better in all of my 22's. |

Ive been using Federal Eagle 38gr hp. for the last 16 years. I never have a problem with missfires and they seem to be more accurate than the bulk pack stuff Ive tried.
They come 400 in a brick for around 19.00 here. I should have stocked up better a few years ago when they were 7.90 a brick. |

I had problems with several different types of 22s but have settled on the Winchester 333 as it is running great in my guns and is affordable.

I'm a fan of Federal Automatch for all around use. I got burned on the last 550 round bulk pack and won't buy it now. I can't really recall other ammunition that doesn't function well in my guns, except the Remington junk, and it doesn't do anything well.
A couple of years ago I found a brick of Winchester Wildcat I must have bought in the early 70's. I don't know that it was great ammunition, but it sure brought back some good memories. |

I use only CCI in my 10/22, as well as in my Marlin XT22TR. I got one of the Winchester 333 packs and in the first 50 rounds I had 17 that didn't even fire. Several took 4 hits without firing, I quit using it and gave the rest to my F-I-L.

I've had good luck with CCI Blazers and MiniMags. Federal bulk packs aren't bad but I've had a few more duds.

I thought every gun was different. As in, what works for my 10/22 won't work for other guys 10/22.
Am I wrong? |

No, you are correct, but iive found that some ammo, while not always one hole accurate in all my guns, is still reliable and accurate enough in all of them. CCI Minimags is a go to for me, as well as the Winchester 333 packs, and the Federal Auto match. None are competition grade ammo, but they still are reliable, cheap, and accurate enough in all of my .22s. I still take out numerous brands when sorting out the accuracy of a .22. The brands I listed above, with the exception of the auto match(not enough velocity for chucks)work very well for shooting rock chucks and other small game. |

I'd like to add to this, in my previous post I mentioned not using the Winchester 333 packs anymore. I'm not discounting the accuracy, I was able to get a 3/4" group at 50 yards, I quit using them only because they were unreliable in my guns (yes, that is plural). I refuse to buy ammo that only has a 66% reliability in my guns, just wouldn't make sense to do it. I'm guessing that I just got a bad pack because everyone else here seems to love them, but that one bad batch left a bad taste in my guns. I talked to a few people at the LGS and they asked me what condition my guns were in, so I brought them in the next day to show them, both my 10/22 and Marlin XT22TR had new hammer springs (the Marlin was brand new and I had just put a new spring in my 10/22) and my Colt Woodsman has the original spring. I still don't know why that box was a problem for me, it's the only box of ammo I have EVER had a problem with for any of my firearms. |

question:
Federal bulk; comes in 525 round copper plated 36gr HP and 500 round lubed lead 40gr at my local store...one better than the other? (both $18) And, any issues between shooting copper plated verses lead? And, I can get Blazer CCI bulk lead 40gr for $15/500...if lead is good to go than perhaps this is the current deal Plinking ammo use, I use Hoppes 9 and CLP for clean/lube. Thanks |

Thanks IIRC the "Lubed" Lead 40gr has a thin wax coating that tends to gum up the barrel like the Remington CBee's do, but I could be wrong. Copper plated bullets won't gum up the barrel like the lead bullets CAN, I've never had any problems with any CCI rounds |

"buy a bunch and see what works".. Got two 10/22's to feed and one Buckmark. Not that I'm short on ammo...just trying to add a brick or two every so often. Got plenty of CCI MM if needed so I'll just pick up the Fed bulk. Thanks guys |

CCI Blazers and Standard Velocity.
I've had Lots of fail to feed and fail to fire with Fed and Win bulk. Aguilla SSS was a surprising success, but it's much dirtier than the CCI. |

I've found CCI Minimags to be the most reliable ammo in my 10/22. I don't think I've ever had a malfunction with them.
