If you do order the tech sights, spend the extra $20 to get the tool and extra aperture set.  The stock peep sight is really damn tiny, but overall they are incredibly well built.  Just need a single 6-48 hole to mount the front sight.

The reflex is still slightly high, so I'm going to try to shave a mm or two off the base.  I have about 4-5mm to work with before the red dot mount contacts the receiver, so it should be plenty.

I have a TR right now, but this is tempting me to try something similar with Tech Sights.  Nice!

!!

I've been wanting to pick up a second one of these forever to throw Tech Sights at it and make an Appleseed rifle (semi-auto just doesn't do it for me in .22lr, and my scoped FV-SR is my favorite gun that I own).  Did you do the front sight mounting yourself??

Because pic thread, and I don't think I've posted this here yet:

I had a local gunsmith drill and tap the 6-48 hole for the front sight, but the rear was just a quick drop it so I took care of it.  $25 for the drill/tap/mount so I'm happy.  If you have the tools to drill and tap a hole without chatter or anything, you can manage it at home though.

As for the rear sight, I realized I didn't finish my thoughts on that.  The aperture set is basically a large ghost ring that you just pop whatever size you want into it.  Mine should be showing up mid week and I'll post pics.

After putting the sights on this one, I'm really tempted to pick up another to toss a scope on later this summer.  Considering how scarce .22 is up here in AK, having a bolt action definately means I'll stretch the ammo out.

After reading this entire thread the day after Christmas I have been on a mission. Today I finally received my last part of the build and I just put her together. My next piece of the puzzle will be a sparrow can, which I will start that process within the next few weeks.
Big thanks to all who have contributed the good info on this rifle. I'll dial her in this weekend and I cant wait. I do have a question tho as I'm fairly new to using glass. I will be primarily shooting varmints in the 25-125yd range. Is it best to zero @ 50yds or 100? Thanks fellas!

Congrats on a great rifle!
Not sure what optic you have but that rifle is dead accurate at 100. I would sight in at 50 which is a nice mid point IMHO. If you have a scope with a drop compensator, it should account nicely for bullet drop at longer distances once you learn your hold overs.

Finally got mine finished.

Cabelas models must not be fluted.

Boyds stock with mod and DIP metal kit.

Nikon 3x9 Prostaff Rimfire.

I wish the Form 4 for my Spectre II would hurry up and get approved.

Thank you! 50yds it is. It's a Mueller APT scope. Guess I should have added what I added to it. Like most others I went with the boyds stock, DIP hardware with a generic $40 bipod.

After looking for a long time for one of these, and having a deal fall through on a used one thanks to the post office, I ended up getting one of the distributer special RAR 22lr.  I am very excited about it as a supressor host and the stock does seem better than the standard one on the fv-sr.

However, it has not cured my desire to get the fv-sr at all!  I wasn't planning on keeping the stock it comes with anyway!  I don't know what I need a bunch of 22 rifles for but I am going to find out.  Can't wait to finally get one of these!

Savage MKII FV (heavy barrel, cheap plastic stock)
Apachee trigger kit.
Mueller 8.5-25 X 44 Scope
Boyd's Barracuda Stock, bedded and pillar bedded.

I'm a little disappointed with the performance.  I had hoped for a rifle shooting sub-MOA almost all the time with an occasional .6 MOA easily achievable on a good day with decent ammo.
Sad to say, it isn't that good.

After break-in and zeroing, shot 1301 rounds, mostly 5 shot groups all at 50 yards from a bipod, sandbags, or a rest with non-bulk ammo, mostly Eley Target and Wolf Match Target.
I've also used Eley Club and Match, CCI Std. CCI Green Tag, and several others.
Results: Overall group average .785" (1.499 MOA), best .089 (.170 MOA) with Eley Target.
All carefully measured with On-Target scoring software and put into and Excel spreadsheet.
I usually manage one or more sub-MOA 5-shot group each day but only about 15% of the groups are sub-MOA.
It hardly ever shoots outside a 1.5" ring a 50 yards and often groups 3 out of 5 touching, but the other two stretch the group out to 1.5MOA or worse.
The best (most expensive) ammo so far is Eley Match, but it was worse than Remington Cyclone.
I'll test some SK Rifle Match and Lapua Center X the next day without wind.

That is surprising. I have the same scope and trigger with a different Boyds stock. Once I floated the barrel I was able to get an average group size of 0.352 at 50 yards. That was 8 5-shot groups shooting Lapua Midas+ from a Bi-pod.

So, I decided to change up the color on the FVSR. It used to be Duracoated "Coyote Tan". It basically was lighter than Magpul's FDE. I wanted more of a true "Coyote Brown" color. So, I sprayed it Aervoe Field Drab. Then applied mesh and sprayed it Aervoe Earth Brown. Now it has a very deep Coyote color with Stealth Scales. Very overcast today so hard to see the scaling but I got a few pictures where you can see it. Its subtle and low key. I think it looks sick!

What stock is that?

Looks like a Boyd's Tacticool with epoxy on the grip areas.

I bought a fvsr a year ago, been using the oem stock. I like the weight and look.
I use the rifle for hunting and would love to get a nice composite stock with a traditional hunting rifle look.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

So, I decided to change up the color on the FVSR. It used to be Duracoated "Coyote Tan". It basically was lighter than Magpul's FDE. I wanted more of a true "Coyote Brown" color. So, I sprayed it Aervoe Field Drab. Then applied mesh and sprayed it Aervoe Earth Brown. Now it has a very deep Coyote color with Stealth Scales. Very overcast today so hard to see the scaling but I got a few pictures where you can see it. Its subtle and low key. I think it looks sick!

Looking at ordering one of these, or the CZ455....

What is the point in getting the DIP trigger guard/bottom metal? What is so much better about it than stock? Been trying to research, but cant really find much other than people order it when they get their rifles and change stocks.

Thanks!

Yup.  It is also a lot stiffer than the stock metal.

Finally got around to shooting the Mark II a bunch over the weekend. First, let me say I love the accuracy out of this gun. I was shooting dirt clods under the feeder at 125 yards and never missed.
I was having a problem with the shells being extracted. At first it was really bad and most wouldn't pull out of the chamber unless I removed them by hand. Later I could cycle the bolt a couple of times and it would sometimes pull the shell.
I took a small nail file and ran it under the extractor for two pulls. That seemed to help it a lot. Most of the shells were extracting and only a few were sticking. I'll probably clean the gun and then maybe file it just a hair more if needed unless someone else has suggestions.

I get that problem right at about 300 rounds with no cleaning. Give the chamber and the bolt a good cleaning and it will fix it. It's like clock work on my rifle though right at 300. .22lr is very dirty and the fvsr has a very tight chamber, that's why it's so accurate.

In other news, screwed my bro in laws element 2 on my fvsr yesterday and got to shoot out to 300. Winds was light but even a 5mph gust blew me off target on a 12x16in target.

Video running the bolt fast at 100.

FVSR at 300 yards shooting a 1/3 idpa piece of ar500(7x12). With my first box of CCI sv I missed maybe 2 of 30 shots. Went to the next box and the thing was all over the place. Was interesting to see how the accuracy varies from lot to lot. At 100 all CCI SV is about 1 moa.

I grabbed an $8 0.01g digital scale off amazon and weight sort my CCI SV and Fed Automatch. Weight sorted SV is what my FVSR loves... 6" steel at 200yd with ease.

Was looking for a .22lr bolt gun and this girl stole my heart.

Boyds stock
DIP bottom metal & trigger guard
Spacer mod
Nikon 2-7x32
Warne low rings
Krylon cammo job
Form 1 can

First range session brand new gun never fired, only cleaned and lubed and dropped into the Boyds stock. All shoots were with the suppressor on, off the bipod and rear stock bag.
Not too bad 1/2" group @ 25 yards prior to the spacer mod and DIP bottom metal kit. CCI 40gr HP Subsonic

3/4" @ 50 yards (Lower target was the CCI Subs)

2" group @ 100 yards with the CCI Subs

I torqued the action screws to 20 in-lbs with the DPI bottom metal and the spacer mod so I'll she how she groups at the next range session; I'll bring my torque just in case something needs adjusting.

Got my wood tacticool and DIP kit yesterday....stained the stock with three layers of dark stain and one layer of poly gloss and it looks great. Not bad for a $99 stock, but it had some imperfections in it.

The best part was the trigger stop screw that DIP threaded into the trigger guard. Super neat feature that the default stock from Savage didn't have.

I will say that I'm a thin-grip guy since I'm not a huge person, and the grip area on the tacticool is REALLY wide. If I had the patience I would sand it down much more.

Here it is:

FV-SR with Boyds Tacticool in wood stained and Burris Droptine .22LR 3-9x

I can't say enough good things about this scope for $129. It's amazingly clear and the reticle is dead on at all ranges.

I did the stain and minor sanding. It's three coats of Kona and two coats of black cherry with two quick coats of gloss poly applied with a rag.

Sub-MOA group from today at 100yds with 5 shots of Federal Automatch Bulk 325 pack. This barrel is a SHOOTER!

Obviously my favorite .22LR I own.
