Bought 10-round magazine for my 17 HMR from the below site. In a word, worthless.

Does anyone have the FV-SR in stock besides buds? $269 seems a bit high.

Cool. I'm going to check a few local places next week. Has anyone found them at wal mart? I noticed they had the F for $167 here.

Got this MkII Plain Jane w accu trigger. It was freckled with surface rust, and had no scope mount. $100 out the door at the pawn shop.
Got the monolithic trirail for $30 shipped here. Mod it to work around the iron sights.
And the BSA contender mil dot for $35
Make a extended bolt handle.
The flashlight will be a Phoenix light.

Shot it. It's a keeper. So I decide to paint it.

New paint on sale at HD. It's a red brown texture paint. It goes on thin, so multiple coats. High lights are a ceader frond in front of textured desert tan. The black is just normal paint. Prep was degrease, mask the moving parts. Plug barrel.

Range report for this squirrel sniper next week.

Thanks to the info in this thread, I ordered a Boyds' Tacticool Stock for my Savage Mark II FV-SR. It got here about 45 min ago and this is what it looks like on the rifle. The cheek weld on this stock is infinitely better than the original stock and I can't wait to see the difference shooting it. I topped it off with a Mueller 4.5-14X40.

This thread, all 30 pages of it, has cost me some money.

Last week -mkii fvsr. $230 out the door after tax and background check.
Just ordered the tacticool stock from Boyd's and the API metal kit, $150 between them.
Pondering an optic now - was thinking Nikon 2-7x32 but Midway has the Mueller APT for $170 and in stock.

Eta- I have a Sparrow on the way too. 3 months into the wait on that.

I think JoeBobOutfitters.com has a better deal. Pretty much the same price but you get a sunshade and shipping for free. Of course if you have a MidwayUSA coupon code then Midway would probably be the better deal if you didn't want a sun shade.

JoeBob also gives you a free Tshirt, which is part of why I ordered from them. Great price, free shipping, free sun shade, free tshirt = great deal!

FWIW, Boyd's is shipping the Tacticool stock I ordered yesterday today, so they are getting them. The metal parts from API are on back order.

Awesome, thanks for the tip.

So, if I am reading it right, the only difference between the APT and APV is the reticle, mil-dot vs duplex?

APT has the adjustable target turrets which is what sold it for me as I can go back and forth from 25-100 yards easily.

well add me to the Savage Mark II FV-SR list. Bought one from buds about a hour ago!

What have I gotten myself into? What is a good optic for it?

OK, question time.

Got the Boyd's, and the top (towards the muzzle end) screw hole where the floorplate goes in is actually touching the floorplate hole. There's no separation between them. Is that normal? The overall oval outline fits just fine.

Also got the DIP metal, which came with no instructions. There's two machine screws, a coarse threaded screw, and a tiny headless screw, which I am guessing is a trigger overtravel screw that comes in through the bottom rear of the trigger guard. Pardon my mechanical ignorance, but what goes where? If I put one of the machine screws in the muzzle-end hole of the floorplate, one in the front of the trigger guard, where does the coarse screw go? What holds up the rear end of the floorplate?

It's probably simpler than I think, but I'm tired. Any help appreciated.

I believe the coarse thread screw holds the other end of the bottom plate... Very bad design, but it is what is available unless you make your own. Hope you got a good kit, because I ordered one kit and they sent me the model 93 metal and they mailed out a replacement and sent out a mangled up POS. I really had high hopes for DIP, but at this point im on to my 3rd metal when I get around to contacting them again...

Actually, it does. I will try it out when I get home from work - I think they shorted me a screw unless I am supposed to reuse one of the originals.

I have one of these.
Picked it up several years ago used for $70.
No accu-trigger or fancy stock, hell it doesn't even have sling swivels.
Just threw an El cheapo scope on it & use it for plinking & introducing new shooters.
Never even realised they were considered cool.

You reuse one, buddy - I think you have what you need. Here's the kit contents:

Finally got my Mark II FV-SR. It was my last VAP purchase before leaving my last job. I ordered it in February, $154 delivered.

Now I need rings, a stock, and bottom metal.

so i finally got my mark II fv-xp and boyds stock. took it out unmodified to see how she shot. was shooting great but i'm far too large for the tiny plastic stock. fit my 8 year old fine, just not big old me.shortly after getting the tacticool painted i was test fitting the action and cracked the bottom of the stock just a little. i did some reading up on the issue and found a good article about pillar bedding the action so i went ahead and did it. went the extra step and pinned behind the rear pillar to prevent what happened to the other guys pillar. i guess it broke out even more wood from the bottom of the stock after some use.

this is the pillar and the cardboard dams to keep the jb weld in place

this is the roll pin that butts up behind the pillar through the stock. also incased in jb weld.

here is the final product. big thanks to those who posted in the refinishing section. got the camo method from there.and thanks to this post for the helpful info.
