I'm looking into getting the Savage Mark II TR model and was wondering if anyone knows if the TR already has the upgraded bottom metal and trigger guard from DIP installed on the Boyds stock from the factory? Or is that a separate upgrade that I will have to buy from DIP?

How far were you guys able to shoot with your FVSRs and Boyd's stocks on your scopes without MOA rails and other adjustments? I have a Leupold AR on mine, and it won't give me much more elevation past 100 yards.

The point of the Boyd's stock for rebedding the rifle is to allow you to free float the barrel. A cheek riser will improve the shooter's comfort, but it won't impact accuracy like a stock change would. Some people have claimed their factory stock allows top notch accuracy. I didn't have the same experience. |

I agree with most of this but would add that the Boyd's stock is laminated wood so it also does a fine job of absorbing unwanted vibrations that are transferred straight through the factory stock. When I went to the Boyd's stock, any occasional flyers I had went away.

I pulled the trigger on Mark II TRR-SR a little while back. I couldn't quite afford it, but it was on sale / and couldn't afford to pass up the great deal..
As I can never leave anything stock I did mod it a bit, turned the trigger pull down to 2 1/4#.. I also put a 4-16X42 BDC VORTEX DIAMONDBACK HP on top of it.. 
There wasn't any wind blowing this afternoon, nor rain, AND I had a little time to get out and play with it a bit... I raided my stash I have under my bed in my mom's basement, and now I have a good idea as to what it likes to eat.. (CCI AR TACTICAL) 
I really like this shooter... Now to get my son behind it so he can earn his Boy Scout merit badge for Rifle shooting... |

well I busted out the savage for the first time in years... have no sights, can't find the magazine, but still had a blast shooting it with subs and the mask. Got 5 magazines en-route and need to figure out what glass I want on it.

For those wanting a picatinny rail on their Boyds stock for a bipod, Seekins Precision makes a pic rail, sling mount combo called their SRS Rail. Order the one for the Bell & Carlson stock. It has a 2 1/2" bolt spacing, same as the Boyds.

Well, my evil idea of having both Tech Sights and a scope on the FVSR looks like a bust. With the irons behind the scope rail, the irons get into the bolt path by just a mm or two. On one and, I could mill off that little corner of the mount, but that still leaves the adjustment getting whacked by the bolt.
At least that's what the mockup showed me. It was worth a shot at least. |

I know light primer strikes are a known issue with these. Mine would do it every so often when new but has progressively become worse. It is now at the point where nearly half of all rounds will not fire. This is with 7-10 different brands of ammo.
I have polished the bold components and removed a small amount of material from firing pins stop face. This did not help so reached out to Scott at Savage Gunsmithing. Purchased and installed his stiff firing pin spring. Still no change in performance. Last resort is to send it to Scott to get checked out but he has been MIA for the past few weeks. Thoughts? Maybe a new firing pin? |

I picked up a Mark II TRRSR the other day. I'm going to ditch the picatinney rail conglomeration that comes with the rifle and replace it with a picatinney rail from DIProducts.
