That must be their new model they're offering. The no frills, no above and beyond the NIJ standard protection. Is it #1145? It's new enough that it probably has only passed their internal testing, and is waiting for the NIJ certification to be completed? Keep in mind a lot of places only state their plates are compliant, and won't show up on the official NIJ list, like a certified plate will.  I've tested their #1189 and it's no joke of a plate. I'd have no worries about buying their #1145 plate..

Not to highjack but what did you think of the #1199, I'm looking at it vs. the 1189 and I really like the weight savings.

Sorry, misspoke :) I tested their 1189 plate. I've been trying to see if RMA will send a 1199 for me to torture. As you mentioned the weight savings is significant. The Ballistic report says it will stop the single M2AP shot, but I'm curious as to how much more it will stop after that. The 1189 plate stopped black tip M2AP in 300 Win mag (3 of 4 shots), and an M80A1 round.

I think you have to buy a carrier with it to get the whole setup for $370

EDIT: Tactical shit has them for $110 http://shop.tacticalshit.com/rma-level-iv

I might have to try a set. I just hate "pending"

That's a great deal. I got some UHWMPE 2lb level 3 last year for $75 each otherwise I'd be all over that.

Are they ICW? link?

They're $99.99 on the website, I came here to see what people thought as well and looks like I'll be picking up a set.

25% lighter than the AR500 I had. That's significant.

I like my 2.5lb LIII plates better

I'm gonna buy these ceramics if they test well.

Well the plate is pending NIJ certification so M2AP might be a little pointless :D I've never been able to get 2800 fps from M2AP out of an M1 Garand. I will check velocity of the surplus I have (I have a few different types), in a different M1 with a better barrel, or a bolt gun. How many shots do you want on the plate 1 COM, or more? The nice thing is, the Ballistic reports give you powder and charge, so I can always have a friend duplicate those loads for me :D

The Labs spec 2880. They I believe handload or have them loaded to those specifications, and of course are shot out of a universal receiver/test machine..

Have you received the plates?  How do they look?  The sale is still going on and I'm on the fence.

Being ceramics, I'm quite sure it will stop all of those.  Only the M80A1 and M2AP loaded from a 300 WM are likely to have a chance at penetration.

Even better, run that M80A1 from a .300 Ultra Mag.

So if I were to buy the plates in OP they'll stop damn near anything including 855a1? Seems very very inexpensive
Link Posted: 12/2/2016 8:42:00 PM EDT
[#23]
Yes. RMA makes good plates. These are on the heavy side for ceramics but that's probably what's keeping the cost down.

If you look at M855A1 tests on YouTube you will see it fails on the level III+ ceramics it's shot against. Given this is designed to be a level iv plate I think it will stop M855A1 without issue.

I wish I had something in .300RUM :)  At this point though the M80A1 and M2AP in 300 WM may be a good bench mark since their 1189 plate stopped the M2AP 300 WM

It's also not certified. So who knows. Once their certification comes through I'll be interested. Till then we need to test them with common threats imo

Some have told me gun shops have gotten it somehow, and they don't know what it is (thinking it's just regular M855) and sell it. I wish I could score like that, because the more I have for testing the better :)

American Reloading was selling just the projectiles awhile back (with m80A1 too) and it lasted about 5 days before it was all sold, and or pulled for sale..
