We had a house fire a couple of weeks ago and although my guns came out OK my tactical gear smells like a funky BBQ gone wrong.  Can anyone suggest the best way to de-funk my kit?

Thanks

Have you tried one of the vehicle odor neutralizes?

Call a restoration company...they have stuff that works.

You may just have to soak it and wash it a couple times.

When my house caught fire; all of the cloth material was taken to a commerical cleaners that dry cleaned and used isolation chambers to get rid of the burnt smell.

This stuff works really well on some funky odors.

1) make insurance pay via contents. Smoke never totally comes out
2) wash if you can
3) ozone (restoration company) if you can't
4) trash bag with box of baking soda opened and in it to pull in smells
5) throw it outside in the sun for a few months and let nature do its thing

We had a total loss structure fire in '07. I wouldn't wish smoke inhalation on anybody. That ozone crap is expensive but it works, I did have luck on bakin soda with trash bags though. if its just "gear", I'd almost just let it be. It'll piss you off now, but it's almost impossible to replace your good gear on the spot.

toss it in a hot tub for 15-20 minutes...

or soak in a mix of baking soda/vinegar in a bucket.

service masters uses ozone machines to defunk stuff. That's what they did when I had a house fire. I just layed my stuff out in the open so more surface area was open.

Also a lot of crumpled up news paper works also. Just get a large garbage bag and stuff your gear and newspaper in it and seal it up for a week or so. This worked to remove the smell when mice got into my riding gear bag and made a home.

What about something like this?  It supposed works good for getting odors out of cars.

Also, I bought a shirt off eBay that was sprayed with some sort of nasty smelling perfume.  Soaking it in Oxyclean and repeated washings didn't help take the smell out.  I hung it outside on a windy sunny day and the smell was gone by evening.
