I am in the market for new plates in attempt to save weight over my current ceramics.   Use will be SWAT and will be worn 24-40 hours per month.  My goals are to defeat the common CONUS rifle threats (including M855 so poly is out) while being as light as possible and have narrowed it down to the VS PBZ or the Tyr HA3/7.

Velocity Systems

Tyr

The VS seem to be the go to for light weight special threat plates, but I am curious if anyone has experience with the Tyr.  They seem to be almost identical and are half the price, which makes me suspicious.  Any other suggestions I should be looking at?  Thanks in advance.

The TYR Plates looks promising, but they are ICW plates so depending on what you and your team wear you may want stand alone plates.

My Team is moving away from full armor systems and into adaptable plate carriers where we can quickly add/take away depending on scenario or deployment methods. This is what I ordered for my team a couple months ago.  Security Pro USA Plates

They're Level 3 Multi-hit, triple curve, Ceramic plates rated to stop the below rounds. The guys want lightweight, but we need plates that stop M193 and M855. These plates are 4.4lbs for a medium, stop all common calibers, and are stand alone (Didn't see "stand alone" on the site, but I spoke to a rep of the company)

Rifle M-1 7.62 x 63 mm - JSP 2780 847
Rifle SVD, Dragunov 7.62 x 54R - LPS 2300 701
Rifle SVD, Dragunov 7.62 x 54R - L 2840 865
Rifle FN FAL 7.62 x 51 mm - M80* 2780 847
Rifle AK-47, M, SKS 7.62 x 39mm - Mild Steel Core 2380 725
Rifle AK-47, M, SKS 7.62 x 39 mm - Ball 2380 725
Rifle M-16/AR-15 5.56 x 45 mm -M855/SS109 3117 950
Rifle M-16/AR-15 5.56 x 45 mm - M193 3150 960

I'm all for a better suggestion but I haven't been able to find a lighter plate that stops both M193 and M855/SS109. The plates you listed are lighter, but will likely weigh close to the same once you add soft armor which they require.
